About Beehive

Beehive

June 6th, 2007 @ 4:24 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Amanda and her fiance live together, and they’d like to use their joint address labels for the response card envelopes–but she’s worried people might “frown upon” the evidence of their cohabitation before marriage.  Is it OK to use both the bride’s and groom’s names on response cards?
  2. MMM is looking for “baker’s” ribbon (her baker told her there’s a certain kind of ribbon that wan’t stain cakes).  Any ideas where to find it?
  3. Has anyone used used Cards de Luxe for their programs/menu cards/placecards?  alyson is considering using them.
  4. Can anyone recommend a non-cheesy DJ under $1500 for sloe-eyed?
  5. Samantha is looking for a print shop in Toronto that does Chinese/English invitations.
  6. Kelly wants to know the proper time frame for RSVP due dates.  Her wedding is August 18th, and her caterer needs the final count one week prior (plus, her venue seating might require some extra calculation)
  7. Jann is considering renting a photobooth, but she’s worried that at her wedding of 100 people, it might detract from dancing and/or other scheduled activities.  Thoughts?  Also, any suggestions on keepin guests entertained during the cocktail/picture hour?

Amanda - does your family and your FI’s know that you live together? are they okay with it? If so, I say go for it.

Jann - it does definitely detract from dancing, especially if it’s in another area separate from the main reception area. My tip is to give people times to go to the photobooth, or have it leave before the dancing really starts?

Amanda - I live my with FI and I just had them addressed to me (not both of us) at our address for simplicity purposes…now i wonder if i should do it differently?

Question: I love/respect my father but am not, nor have I ever been his “little girl”. We do not have a close relationship. Having said this, I know he is looking forward to the father/daughter dance. I don’t mind doing it, but all the songs I can find are very “she’s my little girl, he’s my hero”, which is not the case. I also don’t want to insult him by having a song that makes no sense to dance to with your father. Any suggestions? An English or Spanish song will do.

Kelly: Our wedding is Aug 17th, so we put our RSVP at July 11th. (1) We needed enough time to call all the stragglers who didn’t send in their cards. (2) All of our guests are from out of town, sans 4 couples and therefore most folks will have made their reservations by then. Hope this helps.

Question: is there any post-wedding registry etiquette for the couple? We have gift cards that we can use towards our completion registries, but is it rude to do that and leave nothing on the registry for the stragglers? The completion thing is only good for 3 months, but I heard that guests have up to one year to give a gift.

Question:

My BF hasn’t asked yet, but we’re talking about getting married in September. (He’s supposed to ask before the end of June.) Is that long enough to get a dress from someplace like David’s Bridal, or should I start thinking about alternative places like Dillard’s? If I do that, are there ways to dress up the dress, like could I wear a cathedral veil with a dress that doesn’t have a train, or is that just tacky? I haven’t tried on anything yet, so I have no idea how anything looks at all.

Also, what should we be sure to do first after he asks (besides calling family and setting up a budget)? I’m trying to plan ahead as much as I can without actually doing any “official” planning, but it’s difficult to really know what to do.

Thanks!

Alyson:

One of my co-workers used Cards de Luxe for his invitations, programs, menus, placecards, etc. They were really beautiful and well done. Susanne also seems really great work to with. He highly recommended them.

L8Blmr - how about an instrumental piece?

Also, to the Beehive: I have a question. I am a bridesmaid in a wedding soon, and I am doing my own hair. I have thick, wavy hair (and I’m caucasian), about 2 inches below my shoulders. I need suggestions for easy updos I can do myself, and that don’t require a curling iron. I’m looking for something elegant and soft-looking!

Amanda–I had the same concern. Everyone knows we live together, but I didn’t necessarily want to rub my grandmother’s face in it, you know? I just used our address without any names on our RSVP postcards. There’s really no need for names on an envelope unless you live with a group of people–the post office just needs your address. It would mean you would have to get new address labels printed, but eh, if it’s worth it to you, then go for it.

Impatience - you can always try Nordstrom’s, J. Crew, and Ann Taylor for wedding dresses on a short timeframe. I don’t know about David’s Bridal.

And I think that long veils paired with dresses without trains look amazing!

Question: I am having a private ceremony for immediate family and a reception one month later for family/friends. Should I wear my wedding dress to both? Or should I get a separate dress for the reception? It is actually just a formal dress with no train bought from Melanie Lyne. My mom says people will want to see it, but I might feel weird.

kimberli - i was thinking of doing that but then got sidetracked. i was thinking of God Only Knows by the Beach Boys for our couples pics but i hadnt gotten any further.

Amanda- I live with my FI and I addressed it to “Christina & Cal” - no last names with our address. I kind of just threw out the whole etiquette thing on that one and I’m not looking back ;)

Jann: My friends had this at their wedding and it was such a hit! They had 2 copies of the photos printed, one was put in a guestbook and you signed by your photo. It was their favorite thing from the wedding. It does NOT detract from dancing. It will be crowded in the beginning since everyone wants their picture, but the booth was closed during the meals, and then people trickle back in. I would say go for it!

Kymberlli - slide show songs - for the bride - somewhere over the rainbow - the version from finding forester, beautiful girl, girls just want to have fun, brown eyed girl (if you have brown eyes), the song from devil wears prada- for the groom - the theme song from et, beautiful boy (the beatles), for the couple - at the begining from disney’s anastasia, the song from the end of keeping the faith,

Thanks for all the feedback!
We’ve lived together for 2 years, both of our parents are fine with it and neither of us have older relatives (i.e. grandparents) where it might offend them.
I made some labels at work with both our names on them, but I don’t know if I like how they turned out. I kind of like the way Christina did it with just first names - I’ll have to think it over another day or so and decide what to do!
