About Mrs. Pumpkin

Middle Of the Road*

June 6th, 2007 @ 4:07 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

My hair trial was so much fun! I do not get my hair done, like, ever, but I really had fun today working out what to do with it for the wedding. As is the case in most situations, it is all about the company you keep–and Grant and I hit it off immediately! We talked politics, we talked celebrities, we talked love stories (both his and mine), we talked travel, we just blathered on and on until we were done and I hardly even noticed that a whole hour had passed!

We started out looking at this picture of me in my dress and decided that my head looked waaaaay too tiny in comparison to the rest of my body when my hair was slicked back like that.

Now when I look at that picture I think of that scene in Beetlejuice when Michael Keaton is in that waiting room with that voodoo guy who keeps shrinking everyone’s heads. Not quite what I want to think of when I look in the mirror on my wedding day!

So, we thought that maybe a half up/half down look might work best. I like the idea because I always either wear my hair straight down or pulled way back - I am much too lazy to actually “do” my hair in the morning and those two options require little to no effort on my part. Therefore, this middle of the road option will look nice and it will be different than what people normally see me in. So, without further ado, I present to you, my ’do!

First, without the veil:

I tried to pull down my shirt so that we could see what it will look like with the strapless dress. It *sort of* worked…

Then with the veil:

What do you think? It will be a bit higher in the back next time we do it, and the curls will be a bit more defined. My hair doesn’t hold curl all that well, so we’ll use a stronger holding spray next time. As you can see, we also decided when we put the veil on to get rid of the side wispy strands, and we just tucked them behind my ears. Which do you like best? Other than those small changes and just cleaning it up a bit, I love it! Now the search is on for a vintage hair clip to put in the back so that when I take the veil off at the reception there will be something pretty in its place!

May I also remind you that Grant is doing both my hair and my MOH’s hair in my hotel room the day of for only $80?! I still can’t believe that.

I seriously must thank you for posting these because I would like my hair to be 1/2 up/down as well (for surprisingly the same reasons) and there is a derth of pictures out there that show this style.

I am now taking ‘you’ to my trial on Saturday ;)

Thank you for reminding me to take a photo of my dress with me to my trial hair do!! I have hair down to my belt, with a slight curl. I have decided to go to the Aveda Institute for my updo (and all those of my maids who will get their do done as well). $20/hour–can’t beat it.

Personally, I like the whispy strands down on your photo, Miss Pumpkin…

I love it. The soft curls look really great on you and I love them peeking out from under the veil.

That is totally the right look for you. My dress is strapless as well. I’m totally self-conscious of my shoulders and I never wear my hair up because I don’t like the way it makes my face look. I think that if you feel good, then you look good. Great style, and beautiful dress.

It looks beautiful! And what great insight your hairstylist has, suggesting half up, half down! I’d say you’re in good hands :)

you hair is really cute. i’m a fan of the wispy ends behind your ears. it looks cleaner. that is a great tip to bring a picture of yourself in your gown. that helps a lot.

Pretty! One possible observation… The style looks more formal from the back than it does from the front. So I’m imagining the “bangs” hair area coming down a little across the forehead, then off to the side. Might highlight your eyes. But if your hair doesn’t do that or that’s not for you, disregard.

I ordinarily don’t care for the loose tendrils (they can be contrived if they are super curly and thick and laminated with hairspray), but your soft wisps are very feminine and pretty.

With or without the wispy strands, it looks great either way! Like Iris, I usually don’t care for wispy strands but they seem to work really well on you!
