Vintage Typewriter, Check!

Pretty spiffy, no? I was wary of buying one off of eBay that I couldn’t test personally, so I trekked down to my favorite antique shop and lo and behold, found a keeper. It even came with a side of ribbon. It needs a tune-up and probably some more ink, but it’s definitely functional:

I also found this:

A random box that I have no idea what I’ll do with at the moment. But in 1938, it held someone’s wedding dress–someone who shares Mr. Lovebug’s initials. They have very similar last names, in fact; I love the vibes!

Very nice find. My FI found an antique typewriter at a thrift store that’s just gathering dust right now and I think he’d love this idea…what’s your plan for the guest book? Will everyone type their wishes on one page or will each person have their own page, notecard, etc to type on?

JJrames: I dunno yet. I like the idea of one long, continuous sheet. I think that’s kinda fun. Plus, I don’t want people to have to mess with changing the paper and whatnot. But then I’ll be left with one massive scroll. Hmm..I’ll have to play with some options..

I saw one at paper source the other day, and i totally thought of you! It wasn’t for sale though, just part of their display.

I like the scroll idea (I very nearly did this, as my paternal grandfather was a typewriter repairman in the 30’s), but to make it less awkward to deal with in the future–say, scrapbooking time–you might have a cousin assigned to tear it off every hour or so, and hang it nearby.

i went to a wedding that did the one long spool of paper for the guestbook, but i have to admit it didn’t work out as well as the bride imagined it would.

people didn’t really write anything personal since everyone else was able to read what they had typed, and a lot of people forgot to type their names, so it basically looked like:

best wishes!
congrats!
wishing you all the best!

etc etc.

Auralee: hmm, I hadn’t thought of it like that. Something to consider, for sure…

Love both! So many things you could do with that box. The history behind it makes it so special, doesn’t it?
