Beehive

June 8th, 2007 @ 4:30 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Keny is getting ready to put together her invitations, but she isn’t sure how to mount the mat and invitation to a pocketfold.  Should she use a special kind of glue?  Tape?  And where can she find it?
  2. Deb is looking for websites or ideas for decorating a tent for a reception.  Anyone have any suggestions (besides paper lanterns)?
  3. christina is looking for Rhode Island postcards online, and preferrably those that aren’t 50 years old and yellowing.
  4. Can anyone recommend a non-cheesy DJ for under $1500 in NYC for sloe-eyed?

Keny - cardsandpockets.com has a tape they sell/recommend and I heard it’s best to use that (double-sided) and it’s sturdy.

Deb - check out my blog by clicking on my name and the tag tent/outdoor(s). I have posted a couple times. One idea is a floral chandelier/wreath. I also like garlands. I personally waould stray from tulle and/or good old Christmas lights, but that’s just me. I like something a little different/dramatic. :-)

Keny- I used 3M adhesive spray mount for my sample invite, and it worked really well. I got it at Kinkos (but I think you could find it at any office supply store). I used a large piece of cardboard as my protective area and you have about a minute or two before it drys to stick it down. It is easy to remove and restick it for that time, until it dries. One can is about $10 and i have been using it for a number of projects and it’s still got a ton left.

keny - double stick tape or other “dry adhesive” is the easiest/cleanest. double stick tape isn’t acid free, but it’s cheaper than what cardsandpockets or other craft stores would sell you.

christina - how about getting one or a few of the yellowing postcards, scanning it, designing a back/text, and getting some new ones printed up from vistaprints.com or some other cheap print service?

Deb: My reception is in a tent, and it was really difficult to find really good ideas on how to decorate. I googled tent rental companies and looked at their pictures from previous weddings. Every once in a while you’ll find pictures in the knot from someone who had a tented wedding.

We also talked to our florist who had great ideas, but it wasn’t within our budget. We opted to go with the classy fabric lining which covers up all the poles on the top of the tent and makes it feel more like it’s indoors.

keny: Definitely try the adhesive tape runners — they look kind of like the “dry” version of White-Out, except it’s a roll of stick adhesive. Super fast, strong, clean and easy!

Keny: I tried glue and double-sided tape. The ds tape wins hands down. It’s easier to work with & will not come off after a month.

Christina - I second Miss Lime’s suggestion of having new ones printed, if not from your own photos, then perhaps from pictures at visitrhodeisland.com (if that’s a government entity, its photos cannot be copyrighted)

Christina — Lawyer here. Contrary to post above (Sarah/#8), those photos are certainly copyrighted. Do not lift photos without express written permission from the copyright owner. The government certainly can and does own its intellectual property. Moreover, the photographer may have licensed to the state the use of his/her photographs for a limited time/purpose. Careful, please!

Sloe, a friend of mine recommended Carol Moore of A Starry Night (http://astarrynight.com/), and incidentally I have booked her for my wedding. She seems very professional and I am sure she will provide references upon request - she also sends a demo/preview CD if you ask.

i booked aria melody out of hoboken. depending on when the wedding is and how long you need him for, he can do it for $1500. we have him for 5.5 hours and he has to travel (on a saturday night) and it’s just under $2k

Iris, I’m pretty sure section 105 is intended to include photographs. The photos I take as a government employee are not subject to copyright protection.

Question: I was wondering if anyone has had any experience creating their own high-quality coffee-table-book-style wedding album. I can’t bite the bullet and pay what my photographers are asking for a beautiful AsukaBook, but I am willing to pay several hundred dollars for something with high quality printing that I can lay out myself. I’m not impressed with what MyPublisher offers (a friend of mine got one of these — the photos look grainy and the paper is thinner than I’d like). I found http://www.coffeetableweddingalbums.com but am nervous to buy something like that without first seeing a sample or getting someone’s recommendation. Thanks!

Ok…same question as amanda. I, too, live with Sweetie. How do I address the response envelopes. I’m thinking Future Mr. & Mrs. Bxxxx…Is that corny?

Keny - i used 3M spray adhesive and it worked great…use outdoors in an open area.

good trick - we used a plastic cup turned upside down in a cardboard box, and then put each paper on the cup and sprayed inside the box. that way we didn’t make a mess and avoided glue on the front side of the paper.
