About Mrs. Plum

Eek! Three Weeks!

June 8th, 2007 @ 5:01 pm by Mrs. Plum

My second florist backed out at the last minute - she somehow “forgot” that she already booked another wedding the weekend of mine, so she will not be able to fly out (she’s in San Jose). She is a friend of the family, hence the whole flying out part. So now, my aunt (my main floral designer) will be going it alone–and from experience, it takes a LOT more than one person who knows what she’s doing to get an event set up in time. AHHHH!

My custom table linens from BBJ will not be ready in time, so now, my mother is going to attempt to make them.

I need to start making the aisle runner.

I need to make the dinner menus.

Only 2 out of 5 of my bridesmaids has gotten fitted for her dress. They are being altered as we speak.

I have another event to do next weekend.

My bridal shower is in 2 weeks and invites have not been printed. I am trying not to butt in, but come on - everyone KNOWS invites go out 2 weeks prior. I planned my best friend’s baby shower well in advance.

I just ordered the parasols for the ceremony. I hope they come in on time.

We got our marriage license on Wednesday. Yay.

I am still nervously waiting for ALL the vendor calls to roll in next week (2 weeks prior to the event) to confirm the schedules, collect payment, etc.

I still need to order the cake for the 2nd reception.

I still need to come up with another floral/scheme for the 2nd reception’s decor.

I need to get my ring cleaned.

I need to go for my 2nd fitting.

I need to drop off my cake toppers at the bakery.

I need to get my reception gown steamed finally.

I need to coordinate hair/makeup appointments with the rest of the bridesmaids.

I need to magically split into 10 people in order to get all of this stuff done in time.

I need to win the lottery.

And for those of you who had parasols or are going to have them at your wedding ceremony, approximately how many did you order?? I am having about 115 wedding guests at our outdoor wedding ceremony - how many should I get total?? I was going to order about 20, but my mom says that’s too few–people will be fighting over them.

I don’t follow….have what? the parasols in the picture? If so, 20 wouldn’t be close to enough as I would think just about every female would want one… What’s missing in your post?

wedding of 250… i ordered 72. but i think it’s too much… although it’s nice for every two to share one, i went to a wedding where i sat in the back and the parasols didn’t allow me to see any of the wedding. this is a tough one.

All righty, you can skip a few items (menus, aisle runner) if time is running out. Cleaning the ring probably takes less time than you’re spending thinking about it.

This sentence is funny when you think about it:
“Only 2 out of 5 of my bridesmaids has gotten fitted for her dress. They are being altered as we speak.” Poor BMs!!! (A smile a day keeps bridezilla away.)

Okay, first, take a step back, breathe, and have some tea. Or chocolate. Or both.

Then, realize how awesome it is you’re getting married!

Then, look at this list, decide what is most important, and work on it for 15 minutes. I am a deep believer in lists, but I think yours can be shortened very easily by doing two things: take off the stuff you have no control over (shower invites, vendor calls), and change some of the “I need to” to “Someone needs to” or “It would be nice to.”

I’ve got two weeks left, and I’m learning to delegate more than I normally feel comfortable with. I’m also realizing what really “needs” to be done and what would just be gravy.

i’m guessing june in dallas is quite warm. do you have lots of shade at the ceremony? if not, i’d say at least 50 parasols (one per couple) so your guests won’t fight for the seats in the shade! :P

i hope you didn’t order the parasols yet!

Lisa from MG gave me a no no nod when I mentioned to her that i ordered parasols for the guests to hold during the ceremony. She highly suggested not having the guests use them during the ceremony since the 200 ceremony chairs we ordered will be seated very close to each other. Very close chairs/people plus parasols will be difficult for guests to see the ceremony.

I think you’re having 100 people so it may not be an issue for you.

Since I already was adament about setting them out for guests she advised to place them inside a cute bucket in the lobby area. I’m not really sure what happened but I did notice everyone taking photos with the parasols AFTER the ceremony. The young and old loved this detail! I still hear it 2 weeks later.

I ordered 20 parasols (half green half creme) and they were snatched up real quick but no one complained that they didn’t get any. So for you, i would suggest 20-30 would be sufficient. Oh! I personaly think the green vs creme ones looked better in photos.

Ok I hope this helps Miss Plum. let me know if you need anything!

Hi Miss Plum - I would order at leaset 50 too. not sure if you have many elderly relatives that will be there, but I think it’d be nice to reserve some of the parasols for them exclusively.
