I’m Only Happy When It Rains

Is it wrong that I am hoping for rain on my wedding day? I’m not looking for a down pour, but a light drizzle would be nice. I know, most brides pray for clear skies and sunshine. Not me. Why? Two reasons, actually. #1–I hate being hot. It’s my biggest nightmare to be sweating and have my face melt off while I am in my heavy dress. #2–Umbrellas make for such a cool photo opp!

Check out Bella Umbrella–a Seattle based company that rents out vintage umbrellas for weddings and other events. And at $20 a pop for most rentals, it won’t break the bank!

Miss Strawberry, it is absolutely NOT wrong to want it to rain on your wedding day. FYI: In some cultures, rain on your wedding day is a sign of a happy life-long marriage to come :) . I love pretty umbrellas as well and hope to incorporate them in my wedding pictures.

I absolutely hate being hot as well! I would rather a freak cold spell come through and the temperature drop to 40 degrees than be hot & sweaty on my wedding day!

of course you could use umbrellas for the pictures in any weather if you really want to….

And don’t forget how great the natural lighting is from an overcast sky!

I understand what you mean by not wanting to be hot the day of. The shots with the umbrellas look really nice.

We have a bunch of these really old nifty umbrellas in the family’s costume box. Note: They are pretty but not necessarily waterproof!

If you buy a replica, an easy “authenticity” feature to look for is a high number of ribs.

I, too hate to be hot and fear the wedding outfit and it’s many layers of insulation.

I *do* hope that you are talking $20 total to rent those parasols - unless you are having one and only one rented (for yourself, of course.) Otherwise, I’m going to cry because it means your umbrella budget likens to my entire wedding budget!

It was raining so hard this month in Texas. I mean when does it sprinkle in Texas not to mention thunder, lightening showers? I was so sad the morning of my wedding day. It was pouring hard and all i could do was pray.

The sun came in and out all day and it even delayed my ceremony a lilttle bit but thankfully no clouds in the sky around 630pm that night. BUT you know what did come out - those damn mosquitos!!!! Water and humidity = mosquito action. Thank God our Restaurant Coordinator had repellent for our guests. -)

Just FYI, there is a minimum rental or they charge you a fee…I don’t remember exactly, but I think it’s around $80-$100! I was really sad, because I was all set to rent one of these, but not for that much $$$!

Miss Strawberry, I agree with JenJen that in some culture (like my Bruneian culture) that a little rain is good luck. Funny thing is that, according to our tradition if it rains heavily, the bride and groom have to throw the underwear they are currently wearing on their wedding day up the roof! Guess its for stopping the heavy down-pour. Found this actually happened to a friend’s wedding two years ago. So don’t wear your new Calvins! *hahahahha* :D

I’d love to incorporate parasols into my decor somehow like they did in “Meet the Fockers”. Like the ones from Luna Bazar (lunabazaar dot com). They would look so cute hanging upside down over the dancefloor area!
