Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Whaddya Know…

June 8th, 2007 @ 1:04 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

And now the five things I thought I’d enjoy but didn’t (so far).

1.) Choosing a wedding band. I never realized I was so freakin’ indecisive. I want a plain band. I want milgrain. I want diamonds. Honestly? I want to stop thinking about it. Right now I’m just going to get a plain band- perhaps with milgraining. CRAP! There I go again. Maaaan.

2.) Picking out my jewelry. You know there are a ton of two, maybe three dress brides? Well, I’m a four necklace, two bracelet, and 6 earring bride. I really need to get a hold of this indecision, I’m starting to see a theme here, and it ain’t “fall splendor”!

3.) Picking out a ring pillow. Yeah, I thought and thought about it, imagining all the beautiful pillows our ring bearer would carry down the aisle. Then I was hit with the realization that he is four. And will most likely not give a crap about the pillow he holds. Mr. Kiwi doesn’t care. My mom doesn’t care. And what the heck, apparently neither do I! I truly surprised myself when I ordered a ring pillow from Oriental Trading. It has lace on it. Nothing else in my wedding has lace on it. Do I care? Not one bit.

4.) Actually choosing invitations. See, I have a few designs I like, but really don’t care to order them. I’d rather just email everyone with the news of a wedding coming up. All the stuffing and addressing and licking… Oh my.

5.) Undergarments. All my life I’ve loved undies. From my first pair of “My Little Pony” underroos, to my lacy thong collection I snared Mr. Kiwi with, I’ve loved them. Unfortunately, I am now a Hanes Her Way gal. And having to go out and find a longline bra that fits, doesn’t disable my poor asthmatic lungs, and doesn’t have straps, makes me cringe. And for the tush covers? Eh.. I’m finding some XXL kids underrroos and there ya have it. Whaddya Know... : wedding los angeles Silly010 silly010

So, you really do shock yourself, don’t you? What things did you shock yourself with?

I shocked myself when I cared about paper. I am not a scrapbooker or a paper lover. But when I started looking into making my invites all of a sudden I care about paper. Thank goodness I read somewhere shortly after I got engaged “nobody will care more about your wedding than you do”. Ok maybe that isn’t the quote exactly but you get the idea. :)

I don’t care about my linens. They are Ivory and they are plain and that is fine by me.

If you want an easy easy way to find a bra in the Los Angeles area, go to Wizard of Bras in Monrovia. It is worth the drive! The women there measure you and find what you need. I’m a DD and I hate bra shopping and I needed a strapless bra. They got me in a bra that fits wonderfully in 20 minutes. So painless and good prices.

I thought I’d really enjoy his parents as we’d get to know each other better during the planning, or at least be able to agree, if nothing else, that DH is a wonderful human being and we all love him. HA!!!! A rude awakening to lingering racial/cultural discrimination. So disappointing.

My stomach is in knots over… not my wedding- but my bridal shower! Which is supposed to be a surprise!!! But apparently I’ve got a circle of friends and family who lack certain social graces such as keeping their mouths shut. And hearing little leaks about my shower from time to time, has my inner control-freak worried to death that something’s gonna go wrong (all the leaks were kinda negative). So I sit here with antacids, worrying about an event that is out of my control (I still don’t know when it is though, no one’s been dumb enough to actually leak the date… yet!). What is wrong with me!?

I shocked myself with all the second-guessing I’ve done over choices that I know I’ll be happy with.

I also shocked myself when I realized just how much I care about flowers and cake. Poor fiance was shocked, too, but he got over it. ;-)

I agree with what someone stated previously noone will care about your wedding as much as you do. I found out too that I love paper or maybe I am just currently obsessed with it…. ummm not quite sure. I do love crafting but today I spent hour in The Paper Source in Beverly Hills, just touching paper. Go figure…. :)
