Thank You Notes

Thank You Notes : wedding etiquette new york thank you Z924437 z924437
<from www.lllusa.org>

Yesterday, I finally got around to catching up on our past couple of thank you notes. I went right along efficiently knocking off my notes and checking them off on my list, when I came to one for one of Mr. Bluebell’s friends (everyone before that had been family or mutual friends). I started to write, but then I paused - maybe Mr. Bluebell should write this one? I asked him and he said sure and promptly dropped it beside him on the couch. He’s been a big help on a million other wedding tasks, but this just doesn’t seem like his cup of tea. But then, why should I be writing all of them myself?

Which got me thinking…and you know what that means - poll time!

Who is writing your thank you notes?

If sharing the duties, are you each writing cards for people on 'your' side?

And finally, do you both sign every card?

Early on in the wedding planning my then fiance told me that since I’d been putting a lot of time into planning the wedding, he’d write all of the thank you notes. That’s the moment I knew he was perfect. ;)

In the end I did end up writing a handful of them, to my close friends who had given me more um..intimate shower gifts. Otherwise he wrote all of em, and got them out like 6 weeks after the wedding.

we had the text printed into the card, and we signed all the cards together :)

We are both writing a note on every card. It is taking forever but I think that the effort will be appreciated.

Mr D just wants to print a generic message…”Thanks for the gift. From Mr and Mrs. D” So needless to say, I’ll be writing most if not all of them

Survey needs another answer: “None of the above.” Technically, the TY note should be signed only by one person — the writer — and not both.

EXCERPT FROM ABOVE LINK:

“My husband-to-be will be writing some of our thank-you notes. How should our monogram read?

Thank-you notes, like any other social correspondence, are personal messages written by one person. The thank-you notes you write may be written on behalf of you and your husband, but they are still written by you and you alone. Therefore, only your monogram appears on them. Likewise, you sign just your name at the end of your note. If your husband-to-be will be writing his share of thank-you notes, he should do so on his own stationery. Men most often use correspondence cards instead of fold-over notes.”

Funny story about thank you cards…

My friend’s parents found all their handwritten and enveloped Thank You cards in their garage some five years after the wedding. They never got sent! What do you do then?!

Hmm, we don’t really fit into the survey. I wrote all of them, but with input from my husband. (”What should I say about the towels?” “They’re fluffy.”) The sentiments are from both of us, but I just happen to have the better handwriting!
