Automatic Flowers*

June 11th, 2007 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Pumpkin

I spent some time cutting the silk flowers for our centerpieces last night, and then I put everything together to see what a table might look like for the reception dinner.

The tables will be round and will seat eight people per table (so eight pink napkins), and we will have four tealights in holders around the table instead of only the two seen here. I used one of our STDs in place of the larger table name cards, just to see the colours and general design.

The vases will be as is–no water, no coffee beans.

I know that some of you had concerns that the flowers looked more like carnations than cherry blossoms and that is because I could not find enough fake cherry blossoms to fill the vases and still stay within my budget so these blossoms were the next best thing. I think they look alright…

So, what do you think? I had originally planned on painting the easels brown but I am running out of time - do you think it will be okay to leave them black?

I think they look delicate and elegant and beautiful! And I wouldn’t worry about painting them.

I think your set up looks great. Where did you find the table number holders? They are so cute!

I have given this advice to many of my bride friends. If your guests complain about your table number holders being black instead of brown and how they don’t match, that guest has more problems than we can ever help them with.

Black will be just fine and beautiful.

Good luck

Wow, that looks nice, and solves all the concerns RE the prior interpretation.

In a dimly lit room with candlelight and other beautiful things to look at (ie bride….) you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between brown and black anyway.

My only concern about not anchoring them would be drunk guests taking them out and using them as between the teeth tango props….but that could be fun too!

I love how you didn’t go overboard with these…they provide the perfect amount of color and dimension to the table….and with the candles lit, it will look absolutely enchanting! Don’t worry about the frame color, i assure you no one will notice! Great work!

I didn’t think the flowers looked like carnations at all. I immediately thought of cherry blossoms when I saw the first picture. I don’t think anyone will notice that the easles aren’t brown either. Overall, looks great!

It looks very elegant. I wouldn’t worry about painting the holders. I also didn’t think your flowers looked like carnations. I automatically thought they were cherry blossoms.

Yes, I would also like to know where you purchased your easels from.

I think you need to put water in the vases. That will give the flowers a nicer look to it. It looks sparse as it is, and kind of cheap since you’re using fake flowers. You could always hot glue the bottom of the stem to the glass to anchor them.

they don’t look cheap…not to mention that fake flowers can often be more expensive than real ones!

What a great idea. There are so many line flowers that look amazing in a vase like this. Delphinium, snapdragon, orchid. The cherry blossoms are beautiful!

Thanks everyone! I’m so pleased that you all seem to like them. To tell you the truth, I was a little down after my last post with the coffee beans :( . But, I forged ahead (minus the beans) and it’s all good now!

For those asking where I bought the items, here is some info and a cost breakdown as well.

I bought the easels for the table names and all of the flowers at a wholesale store in Regina called Gale’s Florist. The larger flowers cost $1.00 per stem and the smaller flowers were only $0.30 per stem and I got three centerpieces out of each stem! So, the flowers for each centerpiece cost about $0.45 each, or at least so says my calculator widget. (Did I mention I am horrible at math? A fun fact that has made wedding planning very frustrating for Mr. P who is a wiz.) The easels were $1.00 each.

We bought a box of 300 tealights at Costco for $9.99 so the cost per table for candles is a whopping $0.12!

We rented the linens, vases and the tealight holders from A-1 Rentals in Regina and the cost breakdown for them is as follows:
Linens: $8 per table
Tealight holders: $0.80 per table
Vases: $2.70 per table
Actual table: $7.20
Chairs: 1.80 each

So, the grand total per table is $34.67 for a table of 8 people.

they look really nice! don’t worry about painting the number holders. if you were going from black to some other color, like pink, then maybe, but no one will notice black v. brown.
