Disposable Cameras Are So 2006

June 12th, 2007 @ 2:56 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Not really, but I did have a crazy idea: instead of issuing the same old single-use Kodaks to your guests, why not enlist them in some funky photographic endeavors? Cameras equipped with unusual features and functions result in equally unusual, memorable photos. Imagine the totally unique shots you’d get if you gave a few of your tables something creative to play with:

The above picture was taken with a Colorsplash lomographic camera ($50, Amazon), which creates wildly colored and blurry images, and is point-and-shoot easy to use. Lomography is especially suited for low lighting and movement (read: awesome dancefloor shots!). More examples:

This particular model comes with 9 interchangeable color filters. But you can buy single-use Lomolito lomography cameras for $10 from eCamerafilms, with red, green, yellow, and blue tinted filters.

An ActionSampler camera ($24, Amazon) uses four lenses to take four different photos on one frame, giving a cool action sequence that could be a hoot for shots of garter removal or bouquet tossing:

A fish eye camera ($30, Amazon) distorts images into circular, stretched craziness:

Pinhole cameras don’t have conventional glass lenses, and focus light rays though a tiny aperture, creating interesting angles and burred effects. Urban Outfitters sells this simple version for $24. Examples of pinhole photography:

For the Warhol lovers, the Lomographic Pop 9 camera ($30, Amazon) produces nine identical images, and would be awesome for iconic shots of the cake, rings, etc.:

Collect cameras at the end of the evening, develop film, put all your funky photos in an album, and voila! Totally creative, guest-wowing keepsake!

Are you watching what I buy on Amazon? Just bought the fisheye and colorsplash YESTERDAY.. no lie. I know I hired a photographer and all.. but being the photo nut that I am. I bought these just in case I needed cool after party shots or random snapshots that he may miss. I know. I’m OCD.

Seriously? Crazy…I was gonna say maybe you sent me your buyvibes, but I wrote this post a few days ago, so no dice. Cool though! I wanna see the pics!

I think I might have sent the buyvibes to you. I was at Urban Outfitters on Sunday and saw the fisheye there after I had seen it online somewhere weeks before and forgot about it. I decided against my purchase at UO and I’m glad because it’s cheaper on Amazon.

PS- I just thought of something-honeymoon pics with the fisheye would be really cool too.

Good call. UO is great for ideas…and then finding it cheaper elsewhere.

I have a Lomographic SuperSampler (similar to the Action Sampler, but with the four photos side by side) and I LOVE it… it is a blast.

Unfortunately, the Pop 9, Action Sampler and SuperSampler are meant for bright sunlight and don’t have a flash or anyway to control the exposure, so your photos won’t turn out at all if you have an indoor or evening reception. (I tried).

However, I totally recommend those cameras for taking fun photos of the bridal party or guest outside, or for your honeymoon!

This is a great idea. I recently attended a wedding and their were disposable cameras on the table and hardly anyone used them at all. I think the majority of people have digital cameras now.

I’d be concerned like My that people have their own cameras and want to take pictures with that, still it’s a really good spin on the disposable cameras :)

Lomo is so 1999. (kidding) (kinda)

At least you’ll have artsy snaps of centerpieces, half eaten meals and random cleavage.

I kidd. It’s kinda hard to talk this way, but my tounge is firmly planted in my cheek.

I actually like that the disposable cameras capture the mundane aspects of the wedding. Especially when the kiddos get ahold of the cameras and you get a great collection of people’s knees. If it’s got slightly psychedelic coloring and neato effects that’s even better.

Maybe I’ve been hanging with the wrong crowd… What do your friends usually take pictures of?

WEDDING CAMERAS

Don’t Miss the Action at Parties

If you’re busy serving food and drinks, cleaning, answering questions, etc. - all while trying to enjoy talking with your party guests - you probably won’t have time to snap pictures! This is when custom cameras really come in handy. Order several custom cameras to spread among guests and have your party guests take pictures for you. Each guest will capture unique moments that you probably would have missed.

Custom cameras come in many themes so you can include them at almost any type of party. There are disposable sports-themed cameras as well as custom disposable cameras for birthdays, holidays, baby showers, proms, graduations, Bar Mitzvahs, and many other events. They are great for almost any special occasion where pictures are a must!

At a sports party, for instance, you might order custom disposable cameras with the team’s logo to show team spirit and to match your sports decor. There are licensed custom cameras with NFL, NBA and MLB team logos for the choosing.

Where to Buy Custom Cameras

You can find a variety of custom camera choices by shopping online or perhaps at a local specialty printing company. Buying online is easy because you can order any time of the day, search through many custom camera themes, and have them delivered to your doorstep.

If you feel that you can use a little help getting photos of your next big event or party, choose custom cameras and let your guests do all the work. It’s the easiest way to capture those special moments

Disposable cameras are def. out but the idea of gathering guests’ pics is great. My friend is using a service called Canditto that gathers all the guests’ digital photos before they leave. At the end of the night, she’ll have all their pictures on CD. Kool
