Favorite Tags - CHECK!

June 12th, 2007 @ 3:55 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

I can’t believe our wedding is just over a month away.

Mr. Raspberry and I have both been very busy with work, hence my slight absence lately…Haute Papier just got an office and we have been moving in and remodeling the last two weeks, but we are almost completely in, which means more on Weddingbee from me!

I finished up the design for our favor tags (see below) which will be attached to the cute little bottles of (REAL) maple syrup. The papers I used are the same ones I have been using for all our paperie, and our names are stamped and embossed from a stamp I made from the calligraphy of our names that we had done for the invitations. The pinkish ribbon is the same color as we will use in the girls’ flowers.

I sent everything to my sister yesterday (who is bed-ridden with mono) so she can entertain herself by punching the holes and tying on the ribbon while watching 24 from season one through this last season, and I can check another DIY off my list. (Of course, I was just thinking about helping entertain my sister.)

We chose this as our favor since Mr. Raspberry’s family is from Vermont and my family makes maple syrup! It was really important to me that we chose a favor that actually meant something…Both Mr. Raspberry and I think it is silly to give out favors just for the sake of giving out favors…What did you give your guests as a little thank you for attending?

Oh man - we’re favor whores. Giving out: champagne glass with removable charms with the date, bags of salt water taffy with thank you quotes, soundtracks (aka CDs), the program looks like (and is a smaller version of) a movie poster, custom matches, custom coasters, out of town boxes with local stuff AND 2 postcards (one of each of us looking silly on the front and a mad lib on the back), votive candle placecards… seriously I can’t remember it all… BUT, none of it is non-reusable, etched, branded with our names, etc. I had far too much time to plan…

I’m a big fan of the edible favor. In my family/circle of friends there’s always a huge meal served at weddings, but by the time people are making it back to hotel rooms, it’s been so long since dinner that a little something never hurts.

Our favors are pieces of marzipan as we both love the stuff and we’re getting it from a place that I have been going since I was a little girl and each time I got to go, I’d get to chose one little piece of marzipan from the case….

hahaha. I use that maple syrup on me french toast and almond pancakes. They’re sooo good, real maple syrup not that corn syrup stuff. -) Your guests will love them.

Edibles are great, especially if it’s related to the B&G — yours is one of the best I’ve ever seen! I like that it’s just the tag (removeable) with the couple’s name, and not the object itself. (Only the very closest family would care to own, e.g., a Christmas ornament or bell or (likely a single!) champagne glass with someone else’s initials and/or wedding date permanently affixed onto it. I see a lot of this stuff left behind or given to the Salvation Army — after all that time and money and effort!)

I hate seeing CD favors at weddings. They are almost always chock-full of copyright violations — so painful to lawyers and professional musicians!

I am having the same favors! Our wedding is in NH and we’re giving out maple syrup as well as a tribute to the area as well as where I grew up. We were able to imprint on the bottle. Ours, like yours, is in the shape of a maple leaf! Great minds think a like! Hurray!

We are giving out a slightly more bizarre favor- we didn’t want something that no one would keep, so we are giving backscratchers. Yes, you read that correctly, backscratchers. check out http://www.asianideas.com for their personalized ones. Even the folks thought it was pretty funny, and a practical gift at the same time! You should have headr my mom…..”Oh, the older folks will really appreciate them….”!

We’re doing a few things - some kurma (a west indian sweet made from flour, sugar, butter, milk, cardamon, spices, ginger - to reflect the fact that my mother is from Trinidad), a packet of wildflower seeds (which are to reflect my FH’s love of birds - a portion of the price of each pack is donated to a bird charity and the seeds are designed to attract birds) nad some flowering tea (to reflect my general love of tea!). All very small things, none cost too much, but all with a definite meaning. Not sure what we’re going to put it all in - perhaps plain glass votives..

We’re doing beer mustard from an old recipe I have. I always make it at parties, awesome for dipping pretzels. Looking forward to making and bottling several batches on the 4th of July (right before the wedding). :) Maple syrup is a great favor, and you made it look adorable with those tags!
