Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Setting The Mood

June 12th, 2007 @ 2:24 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Being one of the most indecisive people ever (you should see me order food–it’s like an I Love Lucy episode!), this whole “choosing ONE invitation” thing is driving me mad. I’ve narrowed it down to a few choices, and I’d appreciate your feedback. To help with your decision, here’s the rundown of our wedding:

-Our colors are rust (terracotta), ivory, and gold, with touches of chocolate.
-My dress is ivory, the MOH’s dress is sienna, and the groom with be wearing a dark brown suit.
-Our cake is ivory with white floral/leafy decorations
-Our theme (like you don’t know) is Autumn.
-Our centerpieces are hurricane vases with gold candles and various colored glass stones.

Now, here are the invitations I like:

z876409
I like this one because of the little acorn at the bottom. The gold oak leaves look too much like holly leaves to me.

This is another I’m considering, I apologize for the size!

Here is a closeup of the frame:

z932570

I really like this one, but it’s a bright white card, and I was really looking for an ivory.

And finally, this is the last one I’m considering. It’s a terracotta color, which is what we need, and the scrolling at the top matches our cake.
z932573

The only reservation I have regarding this invitation is how dark it seems. So many invitations are light and clean looking. I do adore this invitation, though.

So, which one do you like better?

I like the first one, very clean, easy to read and elegant. Good luck on the decision, i definately know how you feel!

I vote for the last one. It’s not too dark–and looks fantastic!

The last one wins hands down!! I actually like the fact that it’s white lettering printed on dark paper — very elegant!

I like the last one too– it’s unique, beautiful, and fits with yout theme.

I like the last one. Couldn’t you get someone to design an invitation for you that incorporated the design elements of it, while putting it on an ivory card? Maybe keep the terracotta color in the top, swirly portion, and print in terracotta ink?

I like number two. I think the last one is a little hard to read. And I don’t think it matters that it’s in white instead of ivory.

After much much internal conflict I have finally decided to cast my vote for terra cotta! DO IT!!!! :-D

Door #1 if it had a border or something…otherwise, door #3.

The last one looks the most elegant overall, but the first one would match your theme very well. I think I’d still pick the last one as my favorite.

I think the first one gives a somewhat more casual feel, and second and third are more formal. Personally I like the first one.

I like the last one too. I like the colored cards with white (or some other non-black ink) writing.

I vote for the last one- very unique with beautiful contrasting, I would love to get that in the mail and would never think “yuck, too dark for a wedding invite, what were they thinking?!”

Number 3 all the way! Beautiful!!

I vote for #3. Not that any of them are bad, but that one really jumps out at me. I agree that #1 & #2, but #3 is cozy and really sets a fall mood.

My vote goes for the last invitation. Verypretty!

I like the last one but minus the design at the tope. SInce your wedding is an autumn wedding I think you can easily get away with having a dark colored invite.

I think the first one is the best one of the three. The leaves don’t remind me of holly at all.

#3. No doubt. I’m dealing with invite indecisiveness right now too. I feel your pain. GL!

Most definitely the last one! It’s so beautiful and original and seems to match your wedding perfectly.

Also, I love an invitation that is a little bit outside the box, rather than cookie cutter cream.

Good luck!

I like the first one. Keep in mind that fonts can play a big role in dressing an invitation up or down. You might want to consider dark brown ink too! Good luck!

The last one is the most interesting. The first one is very pretty, but it’s so safe- be bold! The last one is modern and chic, and it won’t look like all of the other white invites people will be getting.

My vote is for the last one! The first one is great too if you like the cleaner white paper, but the last one looks very elegant.

I like the last one best. It’s different and memorable, since most invitations are white.

I do like the last one… and if you’re worried about its darker shades you can lighten the overall look by having any other inserts on a cream colored paper and light envelopes.

2nd choice is #1 with maybe brown ink for the text.

#3 - Gorgeous. It’s just so clean looking and it’s laid out very well. I like the whole design.
#2 - It’s a little too fancy/formal for my taste. But, it’s still pretty.
#1 - I don’t like the layout of this. It just looks awkward to me.

Keep in mind that your invitation doesn’t have to perfectly match your reception.

without a DOUBT #3. It’s just way more “complete” than the other two, looks more expensive, and more like it was designed by a professional

#3. I really stands out. I would want to come to that wedding if I was invited.

Seems like everyone likes number 3! It’s my favourite as well but with one tweak - I don’t like the couple’s names printed over the swirly design, it’s very distracting and hard to read. I’d just get rid of the names over the design, your names are written below anyway.

I will be honest and say I really, REALLY dislike number 2. It looks boring, old-fashioned and not very memorable.

#3 should be your definite choice! The color is not too dark - very elegant and classy.

I like # 3 the best as well. I agree with Laura S that the names on the top get lost in the design element.

Not to add more options to your plate and make it harder for you, but our invitation designer has a few inexpensive “pre-designed” invitation that might do. Check them out at http://www.creativemontage.com.

Here is what I like based on your criteria (both copper colored):

“Emily” — http://tinyurl.com/yu3583
“Vera” — http://tinyurl.com/ytaknv

Hope this helps!

The last one, the first 2 are boring. The third really pops out and catches your attention, very unique and cool!

I like the one at the bottom. It’s very classy and attractive, and looks fresher than the ones above, if that makes sense.

The fonts on #1 aren’t as nice.
#3 is very classy–great find!

I also agree that the names at the top of #3 are hard to read. Maybe could play with the font size/boldness, and/or modify the colors/contrast of the background?

I agree that the fonts are hard to read, but there are a TON of other fonts. We’re looking for something a little less scrolly… Does that make sense?
