Engagement Ring Polls

June 13th, 2007 @ 4:14 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

Commenter Ms. Mouse asked in my post on the Slate article about engagement rings if I could do some additional polls…and seriously, does anyone think I’m going to turn that request down?? laughin07

First, are you wearing separate engagement and wedding rings?

View Results

Second, is your (male) fiance wearing any sort of engagement ring?

Hope these answer your questions Ms. Mouse! happy04

Okay, so we’re not engaged yet, but hopefully that doesn’t disqualify me to answer this. :)

He’s going to wear the ring that I’m wearing right now once we get engaged. March of 2005, shortly after we started dating, I snagged his “class ring.” It’s a Lord of the Rings “One Ring” that he got instead of one of those huge class rings. He used to wear it all the time, but he doesn’t get it back until he gives me a sparkley ring. (I swapped one of my rings for his, a unisex silver spinning ring.)

When we get married, he’s getting a newer version of his One Ring. But he’s probably only going to wear that one on special occasions and keep on wearing this older ring most days. He’s still debating that issue.

As for me, I’ll have a wedding and an engagement ring, but I don’t know anything about them at all yet, so I didn’t click anything on the poll.

:)

Thanks! It’s nice to see that although an overwhelming majority are going the “traditional” route it’s not the monolith the media portrays.

he currently has no ring and i have an engagement ring, however i did buy him an “engagement mp3 player” because it seemed unfair. when his sister’s fiance saw this, he was like “why didn’t i get anything?” to which she replied “you got me!”. touche!

i would have gotten him an engagement ring if he would have worn it.

i’m like impatience, we’re not engaged yet but i know he’s looking forward to getting his wedding ring and plans on wearing it all the time, just like his dad did. :-) he had wanted to buy himself a ring up until we started dating and decided he’d rather wait for his wedding ring instead.

i’m not sure what the ring situation will be for my engagement and wedding band, but if i get both, i’ll definitely wear both.

Like Tea and Impatience, we’re not engaged yet either. My e-ring is being set with my great-grandmother’s stone so hopefully our the engagement isn’t far behind.

I plan to wear my e-ring and a slender diamond wedding band on the same finger. My fiance-to-be will wear a simple Tungsten band he has already selected (we like to plan ahead - can you tell?).

Once we do get engaged, my beloved would like an expensive Craftsman tool box as HIS engagement gift! The better to redo our kitchen with. :)

I answered the poll for me, but my cousin proposed to her husband, and his ring became his wedding ring. he didn’t switch hands or anything. it was a band ring, but with an cutout design. They later chose a traditional diamond engagement ring for her that she wears stacked with her wedding ring.

My husband wanted an engagement ring so I bought his wedding ring early and he wore it on his right hand. I thought it was so cute that he also wanted a physical reminder of our engagement.

Right now, we aren’t engaged. But he got me a promise ring, and I got him as well..we both wear them on our wedding fingers. Anyhow, I’m going to wear both, probably on the same finger. I asked the b/f if he’s going to want an engagement ring, and he said he loves his promise ring so much, he doesn’t want another ring until his wedding ring! :)

i knew my fiance was going to propose. (he has never been able to surprise me, he’s just too obvious about surprises.) so i went and got an engagement ring to give to him when he proposed to me. it was just a sterling band w a yellow gold cross on it. and even tho he was proposing to me, he was the one who got a surprise. :) the only bad thing about it was his ring size was really a half size bigger than what i remembered when we talked about wedding rings so it didn’t fit. :( he wore it on a necklace instead.. until he lost it a couple months ago. :( but we both liked it that we each had an engagement ring. we haven’t decided yet if we will get wedding rings, or just use the engagement rings. (we’ll eventually get him another one similar to the one i originally bought.)

I wear my engagement ring now, and will wear the wedding band together. My husband wears a solid titanium wedding band as of now, and will wear a new one he just picked out from http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/ when we are married. He loves the look of feel of the titanium because they are so light weight!
