Like Father, Like Husband?

June 14th, 2007 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

I read an interesting article on Yahoo today about women who prefer men who look like their father. Mr. Strawberry doesn’t look like my dad, but he certainly acts like him. They are both engineers that like to count their money, are quite funny, and both play the guitar. Of course, the similarities between me and Mr. Strawberry’s mother are even more eery. Her name is also Susan and we share the same birthday. Hiiilarious. Anyway, an interesting little article to read:

The type of man who makes woman’s heart flutter has a lot to whether she was a daddy’s girl, according to a new study.

Women who got along well with their dads as kids are attracted to men who resemble their fathers, whereas women who had a bad father-daughter relationship do not.

This is interesting…funny though, because I am definitely a daddy’s girl. In fact, I am just like him. But my FI is SO like my mother. When we bicker it’s as if I could close my eyes and be watching my parents from the back seat of our old subaru. :)

i read that same article yesterday! my bf doesn’t resemble my dad at all even though i am a daddy’s girl. there are one or two things where they’re alike personality-wise but for the most part i strayed far away. in fact, the bf has the opposite qualities i find very annoying in my dad.

I love my dad to bits, but my b/f and him are very different. My dad is a truck driver who loves working on cars. My b/f is an electrical engineer who enjoys building with LEGOS. :) I love their differences, and am very glad to not be dating someone like my dad. I can’t imagine being with someone like him, not that it’s a bad thing to be like my dad, but my dad is one of a kind, and has some quirks I could not deal with on a husband-wife level. If that makes sense! :P

Internal resemblence, yes; external — not at all. Not sure the physical appearance part of the theory can be applied to interracial families or couples.

I’m not what you would call a Daddy’s girl, but my fiance resembles my dad both externally and internally. Interesting…

My fiance is not particularly like my father, but I wish he was. While my FI obviously has wonderful qualities (I wouldn’t be marrying him, otherwise!) he doesn’t do some of my favorite things, which my father does. I grew up in a family where we traveled a lot and made sure to do all the museums and cultural things in all the places we visited through Europe and South America, and when home, our form of entertainment was always family time, playing board games or baking cookies. My fiance is not a big traveler, and his idea of “family time” is everyone sits on the couch watching bad TV with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Not to mention that while my fiance is a doctor, I always thought I would wind up with someone a little more grounded with an office job, like an accountant or engineer like my dad. I guess I kind of *do* secretly want to marry a younger version of my father!

My b/f and my dad are totally the same! People have said it since day 1. They look the same, have the same mannerisms, everything. It’s fun to enjoy the differences though!! :)

Mr. SP is not like my father, the complete opposite actually. But I am alot like Mr. SP’s mother and sisters! :( Although I am Chinese, Mr. SP and I were discussing once how I do resemble his mom growing up, fair skin, long dark hair and a firm, stern attitude. lol But I somewhat agree, Fsil’s husband is alot like her dad.

my father was not a great dad figure through-out my childhood. and my fiance doesn’t resemble him at ALL. so i guess the article is true for me!

I was not/am not/never will be a daddy’s girl and my FI looks nothing like him. They do, however, have the same name, follow the same football team (I HATE their obnoxious team), and had the same major in college. Drives me crazy.

I am almost a spitting image of my FI’s mother. He and his mom are pretty close, so that is probably why.

My FI is actually a lot like my MOTHER, and I’m like my dad… so it works. He does do a great impression of my dad though.

I agree with this so much! Whereas there are similarities between by Fi and my dad, a better example would be my mother’s family. My dad and my two uncles (all who married into my mom’s family) are very like my grandfather; they all have the same sense of humor!
So all three of my gpa’s daughters married men like him. Strange!

I did all the boy stuff with my Dad when I was little - playing sports, swimming, ball games, camping, etc. (he had two girls, and my sister was the girly one) so I think we got along great. But my husband is very different in many ways. They both have a sense of humor, and they both enjoy cars and computers, but the likenesses end there. Plus, my husband is a different ethnicity, and about a foot taller than my dad. Hah.

the FH isn’t a lot like my dad - my dad is a very calm person and the bf can get a little wound up, although he has mellowed out over the years. i’m not really a daddy’s girl - i get along a lot better with my mom. i’d be more interested in checking out the guy my sister marries, since she’s the daddy’s girl.

i’m still not used to writing FH, or fiance, or mr ______ yet, i’m still typing BF and catching myself!

I am a complete daddy’s girl and my fiance does sort of remind me of my dad if I sit and think of it. Of course, that comes as no surprise to me because I tend to surround myself with people like my dad. I love my dentist - who both looks and acts like my dad - and I hired my videographer because he reminded me so much of my dad that I had warm and fuzzy feelings about him the second we met.

(Cindy - just when you’re used to saying “fiance” you’ll have to start calling him husband! I can’t believe that in 44 days I’ll have a husband. That makes me giggle!)

For my current boyfriend (and hopefully FDH), everyone thought he looked like my dad when they saw him or his picture. It’s the long hair… But yea, I think they share similar traits and I really admire my dad so ever since I was little, I wanted a guy like my dad. Even though my dad and I don’t talk too much but it’s been getting better. :)
