Minty Fresh

June 14th, 2007 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

BFF Bridal featured C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha Lip Shine today as a cool product to put in your hospitality basket in the bathrooms for the reception.

Now, these are super cute, but $375 for 50 containers of them seems a bit pricey. (If they fit your budget, you can get them at Vivre.)

I have been working on putting together a list of what I need to get for bathroom baskets…What have you seen at weddings that you thought was really thoughtful/helpful, and/or what are you doing for your wedding?

they are $5 a piece on Bath and Body Works website right now. That’s a LOT cheaper than the big giant jar. I just got one of these as a gift and LOVE it!

Or save money and get them at Bath and Body works for $5 each!

Just got one this weekend and LOVE it. That jar is way overpriced though. At least for the moment.

The most thoughtful non-typical thing I was some spot remover stuff. Let’s face it, accidents happen. i don’t remember what it was maybe a woolite product, but you could use it on dry clean only stuff. Awesome.

How about 100 tubes WITH YOUR OWN CUSTOM LABELS for $44?

I’m planning to put the usual suspects in my baskets but always find the following especially useful: safety pins, tylenol, spot removers, and flash tape (to keep the sisters from flashing guests).

$7.50/tube is a lot considering they sell for less than that at bath & body works. plus they occasionally have coupons for bbw that you could use if you spend $x.

I like all the stuff Red mentioned, plus I am going to put some mints and gum in mine also. Clear nail polish is pretty standard too I think…

Hospitality basket? OMG one more thing I forgot about!
Anyone skipping this at their wedding?

Definitely doing the basket with all of the crucial things - gum, tampons, hair spray, safety pins, Shout wipes, spray deodorant etc.

BJT, the hospitality basket is only a nice-to-have. I’ve only been to a few weddings that have had one. The great thing, though, is that this is something you can prepare months beforehand or a simple project you can hand off to a friend.

our guests really used the stuff we put in our baskets. my friend went so far as to say the bobby pins saved the night. :)

the most used items were bobby pins, safety pins, feminine products, hair spray, gel, and mints/gum.

I’m sure I’ll put out a hospitality basket as well, but sometimes I question if they are really needed, especially considering how much brides truly stress over them.
Isn’t part of being a good guest coming prepared? Of course their are uncontrollable accidents, but would you go to a formal dinner at a restaurant and expect them to provide you with bobby pins or lip shine?
I would figure that most females would come bearing their own lipstick/lipgloss. Maybe I am just stingy but if I am spending over $220/person just for the reception, I don’t feel the need to shell out a lot of money to provide everyone with goodies that they don’t need, but will just take because they are there (especially after they will all get an OOT bag). My basket will be necessities only — tissues, safety pins, bobby pins, a few hair bands, some Advil, etc.

This is my list for the ladies room baskets:
Nice pump soap
Hairspray
Safety pins
Bobby pins
Tampons/Pads
Lotion
Tissues
Gum
Tic Tacs
Clear Nail Polish
Spot Remover
Spray deodorant (I just added these last 3, thanks for the ideas!)

For the men’s room I’ll probably just have a mini basket of gum/Tic Tacs or something like that.

Haha just as I started reading the original post, I was putting on my Mentha Lip Shine. Love it.

I agree with Julie. I’d only add one thing… you can get these mini brethalyzer test things with packs of disposable breathy-tubes. Obviously this would depend on the crowd…but it might be a good idea if people are driving and not staying at that hotel/etc.

Of course, I have no idea where to get these things. A friend received one for his 21st bday.

Kelly- that is a brilliant idea! I feel like at weddings and other events where there is an open bar for 5+ hours, people drastically underestimate how much they drink, and perhaps that would encourage individuals to find alternative means to get home for the night.
I would absolutely look into it for my wedding, except that over 90% of the guests will be staying in the hotel overnight.
I have been to weddings where brethalizers were needed… I have no tolerance for drunk driving (my high school boyfriend of 4 years was killed by a drunk driver while he was going to Blockbuster to get a movie for his sick little sister), so I would probably be standing outside the door in my dress requiring guests to breath into one before I let them get into their cars, haha.

The groomsmen were joking about making prank guestroom baskets — Preparation H, Anusol, jock itch cream, Compound-W, Nair, Just for Men, Midol, pregnancy test, Depends, Fleet enemas, etc.

Can you imagine! Making a list of things people are embarrassed to buy in the drugstore provided a much-needed laugh!

Iris- You Rock! Love the custom lipgloss…

FI and I discussed a gag basket– but only for the men’s room. His mom would flip!

If you’re having an outdoors wedding or reception, don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray.
