A Different Color Palette

June 15th, 2007 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I’ve seen a lot of weddings with color schemes of pink & green, purple & brown, and white & green.  But what about orange, green, yellow & brown? Caroline & Jonathan pulled it off successfully, and their wedding looks breathtaking! I love all of her DIY details and the koi fishes are a nice touch to her wedding ceremony!

Umm…koi fish are a nice touch? No offense to Miss Bell Pepper personally, but this is I think the third time this week a Bee or a commenter has said something about using a live animal as an accent or accessory. It seems different than when people have their pets with them or use pictures of their pets–choosing animals as details to coordinate with your reception just seems really weird to me. Other than that, it looks like a beautiful wedding (and yours looked like it was wonderful too, Miss Bell Pepper–I’m really not trying to pick on you, and I don’t think I’m super animal rightsy or anything…this just seems like a trend that I don’t think is a positive one).

I’m pretty sure the outdoor Japanese Garden where she held her ceremony raises the koi fish in that habitat. You should check it out. It’s quite beautiful.

I agree w/ hm — The koi fish live there in their own pond full-time; it’s just a bonus that the guests can visit the koi while at the location. Our venue had… squirrels?

yes, the koi live there. it’s not really a detail that was planned out. koi just happen to naturally be mostly orange. or so i hope. animal use weirds me out, too…butterfly releases, goldfish centerpieces…but to each their own, i guess.

for another great green & orange (er mango & avocado in this case, i think) wedding, see greengelato’s knot bio:

Oh my, I guess I should be more careful how I phrase my blogs~! I was assuming that everyone knew that the koi fish lived in the pond full-time. It’s seen in gardens all over Chicagoland and the same with the west coast. What I was trying to say is that the colors and everything to her wedding just fell in the place so nicely. I certainly do not agree with choosing animals as accessories for the wedding reception. Is this really becoming a new trend?

yeah, the kois are raised at the garden. it just so happened that it matched our color scheme. i would never use animals as decoration.

Caroline, I absolutely love the BM dresses, how did you make them? The invites are so cute too, I love how you created the initials by curling small pieces of brass wire. There’s so many details to your wedding, it’s amazing.

The koi fishes look kinda scary in the picture… maybe it’s their enormous size or just so many. Looked like they wanted to be free =(

gin, i guess the fisheye lens didn’t help, huh? lol. guests were actually feeding the koi, so that’s why they were all crowding around the edge. and it’s a HUGE pond that’s strategically built to keep them out of cat and bird’s harm.
