About Beehive

Beehive

June 15th, 2007 @ 4:38 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Yum is looking for square glass vases for cheap.
  2. Manda is making trivia cards for her reception tables, and she needs suggestions for good questions (about her and her fiance).
  3. Michelle is having trouble keeping her engagement ring clean (particularly of lotion).  Any recommendations?
  4. ml isn’t sure whether to order her lazaro gown now or later; can anyone tell her if they’ll custom-make her gown and do measurements complimentary?
  5. Jen is looking for recommendations for a good makeup artist and hair stylist in Queens or Manhattan.

YUM- This place looks pretty reasonable, with a good selection. I’ve never ordered from them, but check it out!

Michelle - I have the same problem, my ring is always dirty. My papa (a jeweler) has me do the following…

~Get a small food storage container with a sealable lid, fill it with h-o-t tap water and a drop of clear soap. Dishwashing soap, hand soap, doesn’t matter as long as it doesn’t have lotion.
~Throw your ring in, and shake it like crazy. You don’t need to let it sit and soak.
~Take it out, and rinse it with bottled water, then set it on a towel to air dry.

It sounds silly, but that last step is important as the mineral deposits in tap water can leave spots your ring when it’s air drying. I hope this helps!

Michelle - in order to avoid the lotion problem, I always remove my ring before lotioning!! I don’t want lotion guck on my bling =) I’ve also heard that soaking overnight in a shotglass of Windex works wonders too. Have yet to try this yet tho.

YUM:
I just bought a sample of 2 sizes from Ideal Favors. They have a 4″ and a 5″ square.
http://www.idealfavors.com/square-glass-vase-vse09003.aspx
I’m going with the 5″ for my centerpieces.

yum -
i second andrea’s suggestion of save-on-crafts. however, i think i remember them having only smaller sizes.
also check out: http://www.hjkimports.com/
they have a large selection in their online store and also on ebay (there are some products available on ebay that aren’t in their online catalog).

Yum–I ordered my centerpiece vases from Jamali Gardens and they inexpensive and quite nice. They definitely have square vases, I thought about buying them, but ended up buying frosted cylinders.

Michelle - my advice is similar to Tricia’s …

1: Soak the ring in hot water for approx 10 minutes. Dump out the water.
2: Soak ring in hot water with Palmolive or Dawn for approx 10 minutes. Dump out water.
3. Take old toothbrush and scrub the ring.
4. Soak ring in hot water for approx 10 minutes.

I just did this yesterday and it came out SO much cleaner…I have to try the bottled water though…

just a small clarification…for lazaro trunk shows, will they custom-make a gown complimentary (or at least hollow-to-hem)? i know that, regularly, this will cost extra. just wanted to see if i should risk and wait for the trunk to save on alterations and get a gown that has a better fit. :) thanks!

Michelle, I do exactly as Tricia says, too and it works great. I also flush it with a blast of hot tap water when I don’t have time for the above, but did something that calls for a quick rinse of the ring.

I was finding that all manner of soap scum was coating the bottoms of my stones in their channel setting, so I actually always take it off to wash my hands or cook or do anything messy now. I do wear it in the pool though.

Yum~ We are actually renting ours from a wedding rental place…then we don’t get stuck with a bunch of square vases after the wedding and the place we found them was only $3 per vase. Just a thought

Michelle,

I bought a small ring cleaning solution kit from a jewelery store. You can also buy them at stores around here [such as Target].

I am doing calligraphy on my placecards. I have stamped them all with beautiful stamps from Paper Source, but I just tried to write the names last night, and the ink from the calligraphy pen bled and made the names look fuzzy :(

I have the Scheaffer calligraphy classic set, but can anyone recommend a better pen with ink that won’t bleed? I’m a week and a half out, so this is bad news!!

Thanks!

Need advice and information on ceremony planning…. We are having a fairly small (100 guest) wedding with our ceremony at our reception site. And I need assistance in figuring out what a basic ceremony schedule should be. And even if possible great readings, songs and ideas that other couples used. Thanks for the help…

Anyone have a generic checklist for their day of event coordinator? What specific tasks should be part of their responsibility?
