I Love Veil - I Do!

June 16th, 2007 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I’ve always known I was a little OCD (I’m not making fun, you should see how I eat and cook), but it didn’t hit me until I was online last night searching for a veil. Yes, despite having TWO veils already (one is my wedding veil, and the other is my housework veil), I was on the search for a new one.

Why would I do that, you ask? Well, my dress comes complete with a semi-cathedral train (what the heck is SEMI cathedral? Couldn’t they just make it cathedral?), and my veil(s) are about waist length. I truly love my veil, lent to me by my cousin Karen, it is a length that may be elbow on normal sized people, but about fingertip for short-statured me.

The veil I have is beautiful, with a lovely scalloping, and just the right ivory color. But then I saw a cathedral length ivory veil with a pencil edge. And it made me think… will my veil be the right length? I think it will be. Do I just want another veil to play in? Most likely, yes. So, I must keep my wallet closed (even if the veil is like, 10 dollars!) and my eyes off the veils. Well, at least until my fitting!!! :)  Then, I’ll see if the length is right (and I so hope it is)!

I swear, I’ve always loved veils, and had I known they were so easy to buy I would have gotten one ages ago. Anyone else have more than one veil?

You have a “housework” veil? That’s great. I loved my fingertip veil too, but I didn’t wear it that long. We were married outside and it was windy. It kept blowing in front of my face, in front of my husband’s face, and then flew off entirely. My sister (MOH) tried to jam it back in more securely, but I told her to forget it, I didn’t want it back in front of my face, I wanted to concentrate on the *wedding.* So that was it for the veil. I did get some lovely photos of me in it, including some of the “over the face” shots, and a few from the back with me looking in a mirror.

My advice–if you’re going to be outside for any length of time, wear a longer veil, and maybe even attach it to your train if it’s windy. And I love the way a long, long veil looks when a bride is walking down a church or temple aisle. Not that I want to contribute to your veil shopping issue. ;)

I have the veil my mom and sisters wore, but it went through a fire and some smoke damage so I won’t be using it.

However, my mom is making me a Mantilla veil and I am so excited about it I can hardly stand it! I can’t wait!

I bought a veil right about two months after I got engaged and now I can’t picture myself in it anymore. Just doesn’t go with my dress. It was marked off significantly from its $400 price tag and I fell for it…

I ended up really liking a mantilla veil with my dress and bought one off eBay. So now I have two veils.

Anyone want to buy a five-tier, fingertip veil with pencil age? It would be gorgeous with a serious ballroom, princessy-gown. I have pics + dimensions if any of you is interested.

Well, this is a bit old, but who cares? I had nightmares about missing our wedding because I had forgot to buy a veil- running around at midnight in a Nightmare before Christmas-esque town trying to buy a veil, etc. I had planned to make one in chiffon. Couldn’t figure out how to finish the edges so I finally bought one, hated it. It was scratchy nylon. Bought another one, and I’m happier with it, so I think I’m done. But who knows, I’ve got a month and a half, and they are so fun!

I love veils, too. I made mine, but it actually consisted of four separate pieces! I bought a package of barretts, took a big one out of the package, and decorated it with fake white roses. Then, I had a big piece of scrap white satin that I bought at a local garage sale along with a few ribbons and things like that, made it into a big accordian pleat while attaching it to a clear plastic comb with lots of thread and other flowers and some strings of pearls that I strung myself, then I made another smaller veil to go over my face that I also attached to a clear plastic comb with more flowers. Last but not least, I had yet another comb with flowers and shiny things attached to it that my cousin gave me. I love getting quite creative when it comes to this kinda stuff!
