All About The Details Baby

June 18th, 2007 @ 1:03 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

This weekend, I worked on some little projects to avoid getting overwhelmed at the last minute before the wedding. I wrapped up my thank you notes for the shower gifts, created some labels for our OOT boxes, updated our water bottle label, continued my photo guest book, worked on our wedding program, chose our ceremony music, made flower pens, stamped place cards and still managed to attend 2 parties, prune my tomato plants, and paint our crown moulding this weekend.

I literally schedule myself to do certain projects. This weekend, the major projects were getting the placecards stamped and making the flower pens. From Michael’s, I picked up some silk flowers ($1.19/each) and floral tape ($2.39/3 rolls). It was super easy. Just trim stem and wrap with floral tape.

I also bought a pack of acid-free, colored, fine point pens from Staples ($7.99) in addition to the flower pens. I set it up here just to see what it would look like. If you have any special instructions on setting up the guestbook or place card table, I suggest taking a photo or including an inspiration photo of how you want it set up. Stick the photo on the box with all your place cards in it, so whoever sets it up will know how to do it.

From Staples, I purchased 67lb cream coverstock by Hammermill ($5.97/250 sheets) for our place cards. From Michael’s I also purchased a gold metallic stamp pad $7 and a gold calligraphy pen $3.57 which worked great! The coverstock took well to the gold metallic ink and dried very quickly, which is great. Previously, I had a bit of a mess with the cheap envelopes I bought from ACMoore and the gold ink for our STDs.

I played around with the place card sizes. After I decided what size I wanted the place card to be, I drew lines with a pencil and stamped them accordingly. Since I didn’t want to draw lines on each sheet of coverstock, I placed another sheet below the lined page and stamped away relative to the top sheet.

I set them all aside to dry.

My workstation. I use a basket to hold all my “stuff” to bring it all up and down from my office to the dining room.

I made a big one for us! 2 more months to go!!!

Joyful

The library at my college has flower pens all over the place, not so much for the aesthetics of it, but to keep the students from stealing them.

Pretty stamp. Where did you get it from?

The stamp is from Close to my Heart. It was their May special, but you might be able to find it on ebay. I saw some similar stamps this weekend at Michaels.

Thanks Manda,
I forgot to ask whether the black or gold writing looked better. I like the black but Mr. SP likes the gold.

I think the black ink looks nicer, it stands out more.
I wish I was that productive this weekend. :(

I agree w/ angie — Black.

Also: “Mrs. Jane Smith” implies she is divorced (using Mrs. with her first name). Whether you follow this depends how formal/traditional your wedding and placecards are.

I know that’s the case with invitation envelopes… but I haven’t gotten to the place-card point in our planning yet, but wouldn’t you use both guest’s first names (Mr. John Smith, Mrs. Jane Smith”) as opposed to “Mr. John Smith” and Mrs. John Smith”?

I haven’t familiarized myself with placecard etiquette yet though.

I love how the table looks! I was wondering: is that book your guestbook or is that a bridal coffee table book of some sort?

It’s actually a Close to My Heart stamp catalog but my photo guest book should look something like that.

Everything looks great!! You are SO SMART to get it all done early. I would alphabatize the placecards (or put then in whatever order) now, too, just to get it done. That was something my b/ms had to do the day before–=

To share something that saved me a lot of time, work, and money: You don’t need a place/escort card for each individual. Can make it for the couple or family (i.e., same groupings as invitations). If you already know someone is coming alone, then w/o the other person listed. If you know they are coming with a guest but they never got you the guest’s name in time, then “and guest” can be tacked on and you never have to worry that you don’t have his/her name.

How did you get the flower to stay on the top of the pen?

Gen,

I wrap a bit of the flower stem to the pen using the floral tape.
