Riveting post title, I know, but that’s exactly what it is. Fortunately, I can take comfort in the fact that it’s all Mr. Lovebug’s fault. Coming in at just under 6’4″, he’s quite the sprouter. At 5’7’’, I’m no hobbit, but I love how heels bring me up to him. Thus I’ve become addicted to funky, chunky platforms.
“Funky” and “chunky” are not synonymous with “elegant” and “bridal.” I know this. Nevertheless, the very first shoe that screamed “Get married in me!” was a pair of platform sandals from English designer Emma Hope that I saw in a magazine. They’ve since disappeared from Planet Earth, leaving a similar but infuriatingly shorter pair in their place:
I think these are just lovely, I really do. They have a softness to them, an almost vintage-y look that I think would be sweet with my dress:
And in fact, I ordered them last night. So as soon as they make their away across the pond, I’ll share post haste. But I’ve already got a nagging feeling they’ll feel too short (they’re a wee 2.5 inches). My dress just has so much going on, I feel like the extra height will help me “carry” it. Does that make sense? So in the meantime, rather than patiently wait to see them and go from there, I’m going to go ahead and obsess about some other options.
The ubiquitious Kate Spade “Icon”, too cute not to consider. But is the bow too much along with my very detailed dress? And while I think that slingback might be comfy, the nit-picker in me isn’t keen on the square toe. Which brought me to the pretty, simple “Evita” by Grace:
Something in me is balking at any bow at all, though. I just don’t know if they’re too cloying alongside my pink, confectionary gown. More grown up, maybe, is “Laughter” (again, Kate):
It has a modern punch that I think could contrast quite coolly with my gown. But I can’t decide if I love the knot or if I want my rabbit to gnaw it off.
And of course I can always go “crusty” to match the seed beading of my dress, such as the Badgley Mischka Adriana:
But is it me, or does that beading look really dark? Another option with nice detailing (that would really match my dress perfectly):
That’s the “Linsday” by Grace. Definitley a strong contender: love the ankle strap and the height, and the splurge-on-a-bag-instead price of $130.
Of course, shoe shopping wouldn’t be shoe shopping without at least one funky find. I would love to wear silver (one of our main colors), and I would loooove the height these babies offer:
“Cosette” by the unpronouncable Luichiny. Now, I know these are an eyeful. But we’re going for ’40s vintage; am I crazy, or do these seem to nail it? But I could have major blinders on. These could in fact be vile x 10k. I’m scared to trust myself on such a gamble. And speaking of silver, I suppose I can always wear these:
A pair of BCBG Max Azria’s I’ve only worn twice. But damn it, I want new shoes! Unless of course I’m unanimously voted insane for spending money when these will do just fine…
What do you think? Hate any? Love any?
