Preliminary Shoe Indecision

June 18th, 2007 @ 4:02 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Riveting post title, I know, but that’s exactly what it is. Fortunately, I can take comfort in the fact that it’s all Mr. Lovebug’s fault. Coming in at just under 6’4″, he’s quite the sprouter. At 5’7’’, I’m no hobbit, but I love how heels bring me up to him. Thus I’ve become addicted to funky, chunky platforms.

“Funky” and “chunky” are not synonymous with “elegant” and “bridal.” I know this. Nevertheless, the very first shoe that screamed “Get married in me!” was a pair of platform sandals from English designer Emma Hope that I saw in a magazine. They’ve since disappeared from Planet Earth, leaving a similar but infuriatingly shorter pair in their place:

I think these are just lovely, I really do. They have a softness to them, an almost vintage-y look that I think would be sweet with my dress:

And in fact, I ordered them last night. So as soon as they make their away across the pond, I’ll share post haste. But I’ve already got a nagging feeling they’ll feel too short (they’re a wee 2.5 inches). My dress just has so much going on, I feel like the extra height will help me “carry” it. Does that make sense? So in the meantime, rather than patiently wait to see them and go from there, I’m going to go ahead and obsess about some other options.

The ubiquitious Kate Spade “Icon”, too cute not to consider. But is the bow too much along with my very detailed dress? And while I think that slingback might be comfy, the nit-picker in me isn’t keen on the square toe. Which brought me to the pretty, simple “Evita” by Grace:

Something in me is balking at any bow at all, though. I just don’t know if they’re too cloying alongside my pink, confectionary gown. More grown up, maybe, is “Laughter” (again, Kate):

It has a modern punch that I think could contrast quite coolly with my gown. But I can’t decide if I love the knot or if I want my rabbit to gnaw it off.

And of course I can always go “crusty” to match the seed beading of my dress, such as the Badgley Mischka Adriana:

But is it me, or does that beading look really dark? Another option with nice detailing (that would really match my dress perfectly):

That’s the “Linsday” by Grace. Definitley a strong contender: love the ankle strap and the height, and the splurge-on-a-bag-instead price of $130.

Of course, shoe shopping wouldn’t be shoe shopping without at least one funky find. I would love to wear silver (one of our main colors), and I would loooove the height these babies offer:

“Cosette” by the unpronouncable Luichiny. Now, I know these are an eyeful. But we’re going for ’40s vintage; am I crazy, or do these seem to nail it? But I could have major blinders on. These could in fact be vile x 10k. I’m scared to trust myself on such a gamble. And speaking of silver, I suppose I can always wear these:

A pair of BCBG Max Azria’s I’ve only worn twice. But damn it, I want new shoes! Unless of course I’m unanimously voted insane for spending money when these will do just fine…

What do you think? Hate any? Love any?

I love the 40’s style ones (not that the others aren’t beautiful too.) They remind me of the Vintage Laundry line by Chinese Laundry. I see at least two pairs of shoes on their site that I want every time I visit. If you’re a girl that’s for funky, I say go for the funky! :)

I say you can always order and return if you don’t like, or if they don’t suit. My personal plug? the Cosette pair is so cute and gives you the height you want!

I like the Emma Hope best.

Tho — the foot cushioning on the BCBG Max Azria — very comfy, and already paid for.

Cute shoes! I want some now too! :)

In order, I like:
1) BCBG
2) Emma Hope
3) Kate Spade Icon
4) Kate Spade Laughter

Those BCBGs are really great and they look like they would match your dress well also.

I like either “Linsday” by Grace or your BCBG ones

Don’t worry too much about the shoes being brand new; they’d need to be broken in a little anyway.

your bcbg’s are the best match out of all of them!

First–it’s your wedding! NEW shoes! I bought the most expensive pair of shoes in my life for my wedding (pair of Benjamin Adams from England.) And don’t let anyone tell you that people don’t see your shoes, it’s NOT true. (Unless you’re wearing a really giant ball gown.)

Anyway, I think that dress calls for a delicate shoe. I like the Emma Hope shoes very much, but not with that dress. Same for the Luichiny. I don’t like the Badgley Mischka shoes at all, they look like two different shoes retrofitted into one. I like both of the Grace shoes and the Kate Spade Icon, but I think the Laughter is too modern and funky for your gown. Also, I bet those knots would catch on the hem of your gown. My vote is for the Lindsay. My shoes had tiny ivory sequins, and I loved the way the toes sparkled when I walked. (They’re closed toe shoes.)

I was having the same dilemma 40’s shoes or the strappy heels that I already have…I decided to go with the ones I have. I really do like the bcbg ones and if you have them already, they are already broken in!

I don’t know that these quite match the platforms you were looking at, but here are some Vera Wang platforms:

Love love love Grace’s “Evita” and I think it would work nicely with your gorgeous dress! I have huge shoe indecision too, isn’t it a terrible thing? :P

P.S. Have you thought about Grace’s Crystal? The sparkle might match nicely with your gown and there’s no bow! :)

Ruby: thanks! I saw those…they don’t really sing to me though. :(

Sara! ha! what pedicure!

I’m a sucker for the Badgley Mischka “Adriana”. They would look perfect with your dress and are so delicate. Second place goes to Grace’s “Lindsay”.

My faves are the BCBG ones, next choice would be the Icons.

And just think of what you could splurge on by wearing shoes you already have.
