Jenny Yoo Wedding Alternatives

June 20th, 2007 @ 1:15 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Before I ever set foot in a dress shop, I blinded myself pulling all-nighters online, seeing what my dress options were like. At one point, I took a break from gown gazing and checked out some bridesmaid dresses. Well, that led me right back to wear I started from when I found these “wedding alternatives” (bridesmaid dresses marketed as wedding gowns) from Jenny Yoo. Some of them are as gorgeous as if not gorgeouser than a lot of gowns I’ve seen. Plus, depending on what fabric you choose, they’re reasonably priced (between $400 and $1k, usually).

Anyone wearing a bridesmaid dress as a wedding gown?

I was considering it when I had it in my mind to wear something simple. That went out the window, however, when I tried the dress I eventually bought that was sooo not simple (lots of bling and embellishments).

I did, although it was kind of a far cry from those shown. It was a simple a-line dress by one of the major companies for about $150. I added a brooch to the bust area, as it was a deep v-neck style, and wore a french netting hairpiece. It was a great decision, and was actually a very comfortable dress to wear.

Ooooh! Those are really gorgeous dresses! I love the first strapless one. If I wasnt so into beading I would have liked something like that.

I LOOOVE Jenny Yoo (and for you gals in Chicago, their sales gal here is THE BEST). I really wanted my bm’s to get their dresses here, but they were on the pricey side so we went with J.Crew instead (on sale = $79 - $130). The Jenny Yoo collections are always cut beautifully and their customer service is great.

i’ll most likely be doing this for our civil ceremony before the big fancy wedding. i just want something simple and flowy and definitely different from what i’d wear to the big wedding.

Since we’re having a very casual (yet lovely, I hope) wedding, I am planning on wearing a bridesmaid dress, if only for the savings.

I actually just bought my wedding dress from her in New York. Her staff is great, friendly, knowlegeable. Love her designs, colors, accessaries, etc. Her prices went up a bit from last season but still very reasonable compared to the average wedding gown which starts around $1500. My wedding dress came in around $800 (Eastern Shangtung Silk). I highly recommend her!

I thought seriously about buying a Jenny Yoo gown, even getting to the point of talking to them about pricing, only to find out that any of their bridesmaids dresses, when made in white or cream fabric, had a hefty surcharge placed on them. I asked about it, and I was told that the white dresses were handled differently, including being sewn on a special machine to keep them from possibly getting dirtied by the dyes from the darker bridesmaid fabrics. Now, I can understand that, but when I asked if that meant that if I wanted my bridesmaids in pale pink or their lovely pale yellow that they couldn’t guarantee the dresses wouldn’t have dye stains, they told me they couldn’t discuss it anymore. I didn’t call back.

Not only do I love Jenny Yoo, I’m using her for my bridesmaid dresses AND I bought the Kayla dress that’s pictured from the back up there for my wedding dress. It’s simple and stunning!
