About Mrs. Pearl

Ethereal Ephemera

June 21st, 2007 @ 12:12 pm by Mrs. Pearl

I blogged about my invitations many moons ago when trying to figure out which design layout to use. However, I haven’t given y’all the up front and proper scoop when it comes to the invitations (in part because I’d been procrastinating taking the pictures and uploading them to share).

Several months ago, I contacted a letterpress invitation designer who created another bee’s wedding invitations. He was going to do ours too, but a health issue forced him to back out. I was desperate to find another letterpress designer who was creative and did great work, but was reasonably priced . . . to me, “reasonably priced” meant under $1000 for the invitation, RSVP card, and inner and outer envelopes. Frequent Weddingbee poster wsukarebear referred me to Tara at Ephemera Letterpress. I emailed Tara for samples and told her the key words for the wedding — ostrich plumes, vintage, and chocolate brown and pink. She created a masterpiece. I literally teared up when I opened up the box of invitations at home. Both Mr. Pearl and I agree that she hit a home run with these invitations.

The invitation card is done in Luxe cream cardstock with letterpressed pale pink swirls reminiscent of ostrich plumes in the background. The text is letterpressed in chocolate brown ink.

The RSVP card. I struggled with how to word the RSVP card to discourage the “everyone and the kitchen sink” method of responding that some people have. I realized that no matter what, people will likely do that, so at least if they put the number attending, I’ll know if I have to call them to . . . politely talk some sense to them. This is also done in Luxe cream with pale pink letterpressed plumes and chocolate text.

The unshown part(s) that I love are the pink envelopes — pink RSVP envelope and pink inner envelope. I like the touch of unexpected color they give. :)

For anyone looking for a responsive, talented, and reasonably priced letterpress vendor, I can’t recommend Tara (and Ephemera Letterpress) enough. She was an absolute dream to work with and (obviously) creative and talented.

love them! they are beautiful.

Now that our wedding date is creeping up, i’m seriously considering just ordering invitations rather than doing them ourselves.

how long did the process take between deciding on a design and receiving the invites?

Beautiful! I will check out Ephemera now.

Not to sound too paranoid, but there’s only one Saturday the Twenty-somethingth of July this year, so I’m not sure that blocking out the date has actually done much to protect your privacy.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I’m glad other people love them like I do :)

Miss Eggplant: We began the design process around March 12 and had a draft back by March 20. No joke. The first draft was perfect, so it went to print. I kind of procrastinated on sending word back on proofs and what not, in part because we thought we’d be moving, so I had to go open a PO box and some other junk for the address. We got the invites in the mail on April 16. So, from design to printing to shipping, it took just over a month. VERY fast!!!

WOW that’s quick!! Thanks for letting me know. :-)

Ok, i don’t feel *too* stressed anymore. I scanned the ephemera website and they mentioned that they like 6 months for the design process. I totally flipped out! Mr Eggplant and I are going to give the DIY route one more go to DIY, but if doesn’t work, i’m contacting ephemera!

Those are gorgeous. I love the design behind the text.

And I did the exact same thing with the RSVP card. I’d rather have people respond accurately so that I can deal with it before than have people show up unexpectedly.

We used Ephemera as well and the turn around time was fast. I can’t say enough good things - Tara is very talented, incredibly nice, and a joy to work with.

The custom design she came up with made us both happy [not often done with wedding related stuff] and I am so happy I went with letterpress. She really listened and came up with something that is just perfect.

We also went with Tara (I am so glad others are finding her!) after katielynn25 and I met her at the january bridal show in Seattle. THANK GOSH! I have had so many compliments from very hard to please wedding go-ers–ours were romantic, whimsical and something no one else in our circle had done. For us, they were a splurge but SO worth it.

Our turn around was quick, too. I don’t know why it says six months? Do consider contacting her…I am THRILLED with our final product and am so ald I didn’t spend weeks DIY-ing becuase believe me, addressing and assembling took long enough for our 225 invites. ;-)
