Originally, Mr. Lovebug and I fell head over heels with the splashy, tilty, colorful cakes we saw at Classic Cakes and Confections in Scottsdale. But having initiated v. 2.0 of our color scheme/theme, we were forced to rethink.
I was afeard that with our newly muted colors of white, silver, black, and pale pink, we’d have to settle for something plainer. Something washed-out looking. I just really didn’t want a white wedding cake. Personal preference n’ all. Well, trolling the cake world last night, I found a couple very strong contenders. Not plain, not boring. Lovely, lacey, vintage-y, and just plain cool:

This one we’d switch the brown for silver, the blue ribbon and trim for pink, and the pale blue for white.

For this one, we’d make the cake pale pink and have the overlay in either silver or black. I never thought I’d come anywhere near to liking black on a wedding cake, but I think with some color underneath, it isn’t be too stark. Bonus: it would make my wannabe goth fiance happy.
They’re both from Truli Confectionary Arts in Philadelphia, which Mrs. Bee blogged about recently. (Thanks, Mrs. Bee!) But having seen what our baker is capable of, I know she could do a fantastic facsimile of either.
