Kia’s Storyboard

June 21st, 2007 @ 6:55 pm by Reader Email

This mood board was a hard concept.  I was trying to catch the mood in the blink of an eye.  However, we are a little over 7 months out and don’t have it all figured out yet.  I think this will be a great tool that came along at a perfect time in our planning.  So here is our board.

We are attempting an Indian-inspired wedding in a natural Costa Rican setting with a vintage flair.  I guess what a Goa beach party could have been like in the 40’s or 50’s if they had access to really good music.  Our wedding will be on a beach in the southern Caribbean section of the country that is not heavily developed.  We are attempting to make it as eco-conscious as we can but still want for it to have a great sense of style while using a minimal amount of non-local materials.  The center picture is actually my wedding dress as the backdrop with a bust surrounded by my mala beads, my fiance’s mala beads, pearls, and my engagement ring.

We will use luminaries to light the path between the beach and the garden the reception will be held.  We are also using banana leaves instead of plates at the reception dinner.  Our arch will be a bit different than this but the silhouettes of the leaves against the beach and sky show how stylish nature can be without being manicured too heavily.  I also love the elegant simplicity of the two brides I have depicted.  Simple, classic, but not understated.  The coin belt and ring on the beach picture is hopefully what I will be like the day after we are pronounced man and wife… chilling, sunning, and dancing with my husband.

Great job Kia! I love the fact that you aren’t using plates - feels like a glamorous version of blue lagoon or something : )

YAY for eco-conscious weddings! The idea of using banana leafs instead of plates is a stroke of pure genius.

Have you ever read “Eco Chic Weddings” by Emily Elizabeth Anderson? She has a good website too at http://ecochicweddings.typepad.com/ecochic_weddings/. I also recommend any books by Danny Seo.

It’s beautiful, Kia! Your wedding is definetly the one I’m most looking forward to seeing pictures from…other than my own, of course :p

Thank you for posting this. It is very kind of you. I love this site.

Jaime- you can do a storyboard through any medium. My computer with my CS2 Suite had a little accident very recently so I did this on an old laptop in PowerPoint.

Kelly-Thanks for the link, I LOVE your dress BTW
