About Mrs. Emerald

I’ve Gone and Done It…

June 22nd, 2007 @ 10:39 am by Mrs. Emerald

What exactly have I done? I done got me a second dress!! If you recall, I recently came to the conclusion that I wanted/needed a reception dress. But being budget conscious, I definitely did not want to spend over $200. Mission Impossible? Maybe not! Over the weekend, Mr. E and I went shopping (unfortunately, its a favorite passtime for BOTH of us) and I decided to check out the department store selections of white dresses. Overall I was quite disappointed (I came out empty handed at Macys, Nordstroms, Lord & Taylor, and Von Mauer) but finally at my last stop, Carsons, I came across one that was perfect! I even let Mr. E see me in it since this is not THE dress and I needed his opinion (also considering that we were shopping together, and he actually bought it for me I've Gone and Done It... : wedding dress Laughin014 laughin014 ). So this is what I walked out with for about $123. Yay!!

Ok ok, before you judge, I wasn’t too crazy about the black beading at first either. But on the whole, I like that it’s slinky and sexy… completely different than my real dress which has a very vintage, romantic vibe. I was afraid that the satin would look too “cheap” and overly prom-ish, but it actually drapes quite nicely. The bodice has a lot of structured boning which prevents all the usual lumps and bumps that come from wearing satin. Although I DO need to work on sculpting my bootay cuz it’s clingy and I have a slightly flat bottom. I've Gone and Done It... : wedding dress Blush03 blush03 I also think I will have my seamstress add halter straps cuz I am generally uncomfortable in strapless dresses and hate having to hike it up every 10 minutes. TADA!!

Obviously, it needs to be shortened like a foot, and I’ll have to get rid of the train (which I love) if I want to be able to dance. And underneath it all, I will be sporting these comfy, 3-inch tall, white beaded flip flops, courtesy of Sears!

TIP: For anyone who is interested in getting a second reception gown at a reasonable price, go check out the bridesmaids dresses at your nearby bridal salon! I found some fab B-maid dresses that all came in shades of white or ivory and most were priced under $200. Unfortunately, since I have less than 3 months until my wedding, there would have been a hefty rush fee AND a cutting fee since they would only be making one dress versus multiple. Just a thought, ladies!! You never know where you’ll find the perfect dress, so happy shopping, ladies!

The beadings are actually very pretty. Um, sorry for saying this, but does it seem like the pattern sort of frames your, uh, uterus?

I actually like the beading! You look gorgeous in it. What did they have at Lord & Taylor that you didn’t like? I was there recently with a girlfriend looking for a formal-looking dress like the one you’re wearing, and they had so many nice ones!

I like the beading, it looks really nice. Not overly done or anything. That was a steal of a price that you got it for.

I really like it, too. I am not going to be a two dress bride so I love to see what others who are choose. Good choice!

Just tried “shift+reload”, “reload”, “view picture”, “copy picture & paste” but it doesn’t show. I see her flip-flop picture tho. This happened on other posts too where I see some pictures and not others.

AKS… hahaha, thats hilarious. I hope no one else notices that it “frames my uterus.” At least it will be dark by the time I put it on!!!

That’s a really pretty dress! I like the black beading too because it makes it a little edgier and distinctly different from your ceremony dress.
