Scientific Experiment

June 23rd, 2007 @ 3:37 pm by Mrs. Corn

A few months ago I ordered 60 votive candle holders from Sav-on Crafts for $.45 each along with some tea lights. I figured I could put sand in the holder and drop the tea light in with some of the extra mini-shells I have sitting around from the ornaments I made.

Last night I conducted a highly scientific experiment where I made one of the candles, lit it, and placed it in a fairly breezy area of my house (you know, because the wedding will be outside). I am pleased to say that the candles were lit for 5 hours flat. That means they can light the candles during the cocktail hour and they will stay lit for the entire reception.

Woot woot!!

Thanks, guys. It hasn’t been easy. There is a very thin line between what I am going for and going either too nautical or too beachy (as opposed to coastal)

Wow, I’d have thought the candle would need to have been lower in the glass to keep from blowing out. Cool that you tested it out.

Very smart, Miss Corn! I need to get on my votive testing too. And I definitely understand what you mean about a fine line–I’m going for an autumn look, and I’ve found there’s a definite line between classy-fall and country bumpkin!

Heh, Miss Snow Pea, Mr Corn thinks I am a nut job. What I failed to mention in this post is that I lit the candle at 5:55pm (as soon as I got home from work). I forgot that I had to pick him up at the airport at 9:15 so when it came time to leave, I figured it was much less dangerous to bring the little candle with me in the car than to leave it in the house burning with only a curious kitty to mind it. You should have seen his face when I pulled up with a burning candle and said, here…hold this. :)
