Program Fonts

June 24th, 2007 @ 6:30 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

familyandfriends

I’ve been tinkering with the fonts and colors for the programs. What do you think? Do they look funny together? I hope not, cause I love both fonts dearly and would have a hard time parting with either! This is the font page–the cover will be chocolate brown with a cutout on the front to let the birds at the bottom peek through.

No, they don’t look funny together. Only…. the very first word I noticed (even before your names) was “and” which is probably the least important word above. Maybe play with the scale a little (”and” could be smaller?) to see what variations would look like?

i agree with Iris about the scale. but besides that i think it looks very nice–i love pink and brown together

Ok…I am going to give my honest opinion and I feel awful because I want to like it and I don’t. I LOVE the brown font and the pink in the rest of the text…but the a-n-d in hearts is a bit much and I think it takes away from the rest of the design concept. Ok….promise you don’t hate me :)

Yeah, I agree. I think part of it is the “and” is so bold compared to the rest of the text, and the other part might be that the brown script font is a little hard to read. There are so many little lines coming off each letter, that I personally found that I had to really focus to read the words, as opposed to just getting it at first glance. I’m also not sure how hard the pink will be to read on white paper. It might just be because I was looking at it on a computer screen, but I’d do a test run just to make sure that it’s a strong enough color. Especially for the older folks that have trouble reading small print to begin with…

I agree with the pp. I think you could make it work if you truly love it, but the “and” is really the most eye-catching part. It might look a little better without the hearts…or if you just put hearts elsewhere and it can be a recurring motif.

That being said, the pink and brown look great, I love the birds and I really think the font for the names is perfect with the “shabby chic” theme.

I like the brown font in a little bit of use… but I think if you use it for your names you should use a clear and standard font for the pink sections. I had a lot of trouble reading it…. which might be due to the size… but something about the decreasing size of the characters really threw me off.

I think the pink font is beautiful, and though the font in brown is attractive, it seems a little difficult to read. The fonts are lovely together, however.

I think they look great together, my only advice is to pick a darker pink if its going on white paper, I really had trouble with the pink on the white background, maybe it will print darker though, I kind of agree with the and thing, but its not that bad if you really like it, I don’t think people are going to hate it, its just more noticable than all the other words which seems odd since and is such a boring word. Love the birds, really helps with the addition of the brown

Dear Ms. Strawberry -

I love the idea behind your program. Very vintage/hodgy-podge cute. BUT… as with the pp’s, the hearts really fall out of place.

Have you thought about using the same font as the Family/Friend, but substitute “&” for the actual word??

I LOVE the brown font and try to use it when possible.

brown & pink are an adorable combination but maybe instead of using “AND”, replace it with a more subtle “&”?

I also hope that you’re planning on having this on a darker background. I’m not sure if it’s just my screen but I can barely read the pink font!

I think it looks pretty together…if you scaled down the “and” as some have already mentioned…it would be perfect!

Honestly, I think the two fonts would look better together if they were both slanting in the same direction. To me, the heart font looks like the letters slant backwards which creates a back-and-forth, seasick feeling. Plus, you are trying to combine three fonts (all slanting different ways), one of which is extremely different. It would probably be better if you found another place to use your heart font. I DO love your brown font, though.

Oooh… I love your stuff… I love pink and brown… :) I agree with the pp maybe an ampersand inside the heart instead of “and” would work better. I think it looks every whimsical! I love it. You have such great ideas!

I love the vintage look, but be careful with overuse of the brown, I think it looks dirty!

**OK I lied, just the bolded font looks dirty, the rest is fine! Just a little tricky to read!**

I love the brown font too…I actually used it as the return address font on my Save the Dates, because I wanted a gothy look. However, for the invitations, I would clean it up a bit because it does look dirty - there are tons of little specks that accompany each letter. I’m not a huge fan of the heart font…to me, the brown font is decadent and elegant, and the hearts are cutesy - two opposing vibes.

I agree with the comments above. Another suggestion - have you tried looking at free font sites for other fonts that feature hearts? I know it’s daunting to look at more fonts at this point, but maybe there is one that will suit the whole feel even better. (Most font sites narrow down by category, so you could search “heart”). By the way, what fonts are they? What program did you make this in? You’re very talented, and as the other girls said, I bet the look/feel on paper is totally different than trying to look at it on screen. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input! I tinkered with a bit and made the “AND” smaller. There is no & in the font. The heart font is called loverboy and the brown font is the King and Queen. It does look different on paper. I had intented to make the programs somewhat small…but seeing how hard the font is to begin with..I’m made the programs bigger! :)

I really love the bird icon, where is it from? I think the overall look of the programs will depend on the paper you’re using. I really like it, though.
