Who Doesn’t Love a Good Deal?

June 25th, 2007 @ 6:39 pm by Mrs. Emerald

In the wide world of weddings, everything costs an extra arm and a leg when it has the prefix “wedding” attached to it, so us brides are all in search of a bargain. Therefore, I’d love to know, what are your best wedding-related steals and deals? Mine are:

- My sample dress, almost 70% off the original price tag!!
- My two flower girl dresses off Amazon, a total of $40 for both dresses including shipping!
- Five fab Paris themed hatboxes that I found at Michaels for $1.00 each, in the 75% off section!

my venue is completely free, there is a minimum drink and food purchase, but I would have hit the minimum easily regardless.

my ceremony music is completely free a violinist and a celloist (sp?) who are absolutely amazing.

Bath and Body Works “Love” soaps for the OOT baskets $1 each (normally $4 or $5 I believe)

Most of my basket items for the bathroom are free (saving all the samples I get in the mail)

My programs $7 for 50 (3 packs) normally $15+ for 50

I love deals!!!!

I haven’t bought much yet for the wedding so I am hoping for many more, I’m pretty sure we are getting the grooms tux for free and $50+ off my dress as well.

aoedorothee- My cousin offered to do my ceremony music (she does weddings regularly and has played the violin since a very, very young age. She has been in several major symphonic bands including Kansas City, MOs) then she asked a friend that does with weddings with her and her friend said yes

My venue was extremely lucky, I’m still waiting for something to go wrong, if you know anything about KC, my venue should have cost a fortune because it overlooks the plaza. For some odd reason they don’t have a venue fee, just a food and drink minimum, my minimum on Friday night May 30, 2008 for both of their rooms (fits over 200 people) is $4000, the minimum includes food, drink, bar, and cake cutting fee ($40 flat fee by the way another deal I forgot to mention)

Most all my other deals I watch for sales and use coupons. Never ever buy anything from Michaels, Joanns, or Hobby Lobby without a coupon, they are in almost every newspaper every weekend and sometimes they are even at the door so why pay full price.

I am an avid free stuff junkie, I hate buying products and then throwing away a $3 or $4 something because I don’t like it, plus I’m a poor college student, so I’m constantly getting samples from places, well instead of using them myself now, I’m collecting them and am going to use them for OOT baskets and the bathroom baskets. I just got 20 free coloring books in the mail today that I’m going to put on the kids table. Oh and ever April (I think its April) there is a free comic book day, where you can go anywhere that sells comics for the most part and pick ten free from their selection (its comics they put out for that day only, but there is spider-man, anime, simpsons, mickey mouse, etc.) I got mine 10 this April and I plan on getting the 10 new ones next April as well.

Also Wal-Mart clearance aisle is amazing!!!! And now that my mom got a second job there (she is helping me pay for the wedding) I get a 10% discount.

My pale yellow frosted votives, bought on eBay in one of those “make an offer” auctions. Cost me about $.60 each, and the shipping was low. I loved them, and they really made an impact massed at the reception.

My flowers: 400 roses from freshroses.com. Total for flowers was less than $400, including FedEx. My centerpieces, each consisting of two dozen bridal white roses in a frosted cylinder vase surrounded by a bunch of the votives, cost me less than $25 each. Everyone was impressed with the tables, and they didn’t even know the cost. I think they would have been *really* impressed if they knew how much we paid.

My Casablanca gown, bought for several hundred below list, had no alterations, not even a hem as I ordered it with a hollow-to-hem measurement, and it even came with a bustle. Great deal.

I wish I was a savvy shopper. My flower girl dress cost me 200 bucks..granted it was made out of silk chiffon and silk dupioni. I probably could’ve found another dress made out of the same material for cheaper.

My dress - more than 50% off, including a garment bag and free shipping - thanks to Netbride!

Hair and makeup for myself and two other ladies - including the fee for her to travel to our hotel room location, for less than $300 total - thanks to Craigslist.

Our engagement photos - three hours on our college campus taking over 400 shots plus a CD of images for $200 - thanks to sending a few emails to people in the photography department.

16 centerpieces - silk flower wreaths bought on severe after-Christmas discount (who knew purple was a Christmas color?), fish bowls all bought at a 50% off sale at Michael’s, and floating candles also bought after-Christmas - for less than $75 total.

Mr. Lovebug stole my heart in five seconds flat. Beyond that, nope, no steals. I apparently am on the pay *extra* plan. Lucky me!

My reception venue is free too– they waived the $2000 site fee and they’re giving me member pricing on all the food/alcohol even though I’m not a member of their club!

I got $600 off my videography package because they ran a special 6 months after I signed my contract, and gave me the discounted price when I found out about it later.

My table runners (DIY) ended up costing just over $3 each, and I’m selling them for $3 each after the wedding.
