On Sunday night, my bridesmaid and I went to meet Ai Sakai for my hair and makeup trial. Ai was recommended by Sachiko Yanese who was already booked on my date. Sachiko is amazing and came highly recommended, so I trust Ai would be too. Ai is incredibly sweet, pleasant to be around, calm, and very efficient in her work. I feel confident that she will do a wonderful job on the wedding day with little direction.

BEFORE: I have been so busy that I forgot to bring pictures with me. We went through a few magazines at her place and she showed me some different hairstyles. I chose a “french twist” kinda do. I really like the sweep from my face to the top of my hair. I don’t like my hair completely pulled back because my MOH said I look like a little old lady that way.

My mug shot: For makeup, I said I still want to look like me, just magnified. She made my eyes look bigger and brighter. She added fake eyelashes. It was so pretty and flirty. The makeup was light and I didn’t feel a thing.

Right side: Ai also recommended that I trim my hair about 2″. It’s a bit too long now and with a trim, the curls will look nicer on my head.

It’s hard to tell in this picture but it’s wrapped over from the right to left. We talked about moving the curl over a bit to the right.

Top: Look! I have lashes! There was just enough volume on top to give my head some shape. I don’t know about that piece of hair on the side of my face. It’s natural and looks nice, but I am afraid on the wedding day, it will be in my way.

From afar: Acting demure with my bridesmaid.

I brought the tube top with me so we could see the hair and makeup in reference to a white “dress”. You can see what Mr. Snow Pea calls my farmer’s tan. The hair pins and earrings were from two shops in Koreantown around 32nd street between Broadway and 5th. The larger hair pin is actually a brooch ($12.99) and the earrings were $5.99. Ai just put some bobby pins through the brooch to attach it to my hair. It was very secure and didn’t fall out at all. The smaller hair pin (with 2 teeth) was $7. I just picked up these these items at the last minute during my rounds in the afternoon. For that price, I figured why the heck not. If it works, it works. If not, I could always pin it to my clutch as Miss Bell Pepper did.
A few readers were asking about a hair and makeup artist in NYC. My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I wanted to make sure the trial went well first and ask her permission before posting her number. She said she would be happy to talk to you and I must say, you can’t go wrong. She is sweet, genuine, and has got some skills!
