A Completely Original Idea

June 27th, 2007 @ 5:44 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

That I stole. There I said it. I’m an idea thief. You caught me. :-) As a matter of fact, I’ve stolen most of my wedding ideas. My confetti poppers come from the brilliant mind of my florist, my bouquet right off the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings, and my lantern centerpieces were the brainchild of knottie NetterB.

My latest idea comes in the form of soda-pop. I’m not a big drinker, so this is right up my alley. Knotties Mrs. Donkey and PDXDFWbride both had mini soda bars and one of my clients/weddingbee reader, wsukarebear, tossed around the idea of having one as well.

Mrs. Donkey’s guests flavored their sodas with lime, cherries, vanilla and peanuts. You haven’t lived until you have flavored your coke with peanuts. Note–it must be a coke in a glass bottle. Not a can. And for me, it also, must be a coke. I despise Pepsi–with a passion.

Might even throw in some Izze or Jones Soda into the mix.

Jugs of pink lemonade or POG (Pineapple Orange Guava) would also make me very happy. What can I say? I’m easy to please.

I think (crossed fingers) that you can also get Jones Soda personalized with your own lables! What a cute idea!

I need to know more about flavoring coke with peanuts! With the shell? without? Do you just dump it in? I’m intrigued

I love the lanters that you will use and (NetterB used) for the centerpieces… would you mind sharing where they can be purchased?

Miss Strawberry says:

I got a few from ebay and a whole bunch from fred meyer, tj max, marshalls…all different. All brown though and most have birds on handle. :)

I love the soda bar! Looks delicious! And since I went to Emory for undergrad, there can only be Coke!

Where will you get POG? I have been trying to find it since going to Hawaii last year, and it seems to be unavaiable in the 48. Unless you’re making your own?

I was so going to post a similar idea on my blog! But I was toying with doing it as a coffee bar with the cake, because there’s more options to add to coffee (hazlenut, caramel, espresso shots!) and it would be something novel and neat. With soda, I got stuck on the cherry and vanilla options and couldn’t think of any others that would go well. I know Sonic has all the different flavors you can add, but really, grape Dr. Pepper?

Oh, and I noticed that the DP was Dublin DP from the one and only Dublin, Texas. Cute town - I used to drive through it whenever I went between my hometown and my college town :)

Love the idea of flavored Cokes! Partly because my grandparents used to own a genuine drugstore soda fountain that sold them (along with ice cream and candy — looooooved visiting Grandma and Grandpa!), and partly because cherry Cokes are one of my favorite things ever….

But I’ve never noticed the syrups for sale in regular stores. (Must admit I’ve never checked the Internet.) Do you have a particular source for them? Thanks!!!

Miss Jelly Beans says:

That is such a great and very pretty idea! I wish our venue would allow us to do that…. :)

I agree……Pepsi

Opps….i meant to say Pespi is too sweet for me. :-)

Moni says:

Torani and Da Vinci both make syrups in a bunch of flavors (and also sugar free). You can buy them in a bunch of different food stores, as well as in TJ Maxx!

here’s another soda related idea you can steal. at our italian feast wedding reception, we are having a make it yourself italian soda bar. super simple, just have syrups and soda water and let guests get creative!

kandaceandjason says:

You can buy all sorts of syrups, along with Izze and Jones sodas, at World Market.

miss strawberry, you’re a bee after my own heart. i pretty much stole most if not all of my ideas for the wedding too! i think i even took a couple of yours! lol. i won’t tell if you don’t ;-)

and i second ms. tea. italian sodas are yummy but even yummier with sprite instead of soda water. i

Didi says:

miss strawberry - do you know where the knotties found the glass jars with the dispensing spouts?

tofu says:

didi - i know the answer! i’m looking to buy some too. http://www.infusionjars.com/

and, of course, ebay.

i agree, coke is so much better than pepsi! please go tell my fiance that they are NOT the same… he doesn’t believe me. :)

Corey says:

Yum! I’m drinking a glass bottle Coke right now, there is nothing like it. FWIW they have them at Sam’s Club - 4 8 packs for 11$.

I would love to have this as well but given that I’m having a destination wedding I’m thinking I’m not going to have this!

Holly says:

Another fun Seattle touch– include some bottles of DRY soda! They come in such sassy flavors (lavender, kumquat, etc), and the headquarters is in Pioneer Square! And they have the most elegant bottles too. :) Keep it up, Miss Strawberry!
