About Mrs. Lime

Invitation Time, Finally!

June 27th, 2007 @ 2:49 pm by Mrs. Lime

I’ll start where we left off.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Before we get to the meat, sorry for all the blurriness. I am simply respecting Mr. Lime’s wishes for privacy. One day, I hope to be able to post them in their full glory.

Pull it out, and you see this:

I wanted one, contained package without anything loose to fall out or be lost (I tend to do this myself =P. I think my guests are better than me at keeping tabs on loose paper pieces, but to make it easier for all, everything is “bound” together).

Another view (this one to make you sleeeeepeeeee . . . )

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

(Components visible: Paper Source White #10 Backing, a mix of Paper Source’s ’red’ and ’pool ’ eyelets and snaps, Clearprint 1000H drafting vellum cut down to size by Printing Palace, white Gocco ink.)

Open it up, to the invitation page. Yeah, our alignment was a bit off on this one during the assembly process. You see a bit of the directions card’s text peeking through, and the stamp on the RSVP card peeking through, too.

(Components: Paper Source P.S.Collection flat paper in ’pool,’ again cut down by Printing Palace.White and basic red Gocco ink.)

A few detail shots that show the properties of the white Gocco ink. It wasn’t quite as opaque on my medium toned paper as I hoped it’d be, but it worked. It’s also thicker than most other colors, giving anything printed an *almost* embossed feel.

RSVP page, perforated so postcard can be torn out and sent back to us:

(You can see the back of the eyelet we used to mark “the spot” on the directions page.)

The back. Yes, only two of the seven eyelets/snaps are visible through the pre-drilled holes of the #10 backing. Yes, it was a PITA.

One last bit of grommet-y goodness: Setting all these gave Mr. Lime and me some massive forearms and arthritic-feeling elbows.

Software used for layout:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator

Fonts:
Din Schrift
Century Gothic

I “hand drew” all graphic elements (the few that there are) and the map from scratch in Illustrator.

Everything was then printed on my trusty, now dusty Gocco B5 (discontinued model that has been replaced by the PG Arts model) printer.

The End!  For now…some tips and photos of the process to come.  You get to see the mess and madness behind it all!

I don’t much about the Gocco (my interest has been peaking for months now), but I think it is really cool you used your Illustrator work with it.

These are absolutely gorgeous. I think you have pushed my Gocco interest over the edge with your work.

You should be proud of this work. Your guests are going to dig them.

Those are incredible! I LOVE the tear out postcard RSVP… I may have to steal that idea and pass it off as my own to anyone that asks. ;)

They’re so unique and modern, I love them! You’re going to get so many compliments on those, trust me. So many people are used to the plain white invitations, they’re going to be blown away by yours!

i love the clean lines of your invitation! and i love that they’re all bound together! i’m actually doing the same thing in binding all of my inserts together. just the main invite piece will be separate.

So neat.

Having a *little* trouble reading them, but maybe it’s just the contrast on my screen.

If you’re thinking of using grommets often, invest in a crop-o-dile. It punches a hole and then snaps in the grommet! They are so easy to do this way.

These are fabulous! It’s so funny, my invites are very very similar in form to yours and Miss Plumeria’s, except my “binding” is sewn (with my sewing machine). I love having all the info together for my guests! Your grommets are great, I love their “abstract” design (and the grommet marking your wedding spot). These are sure to be a hit!

Miss Lime,
Can you share the wording you used beside the RSVP card? I want to put something similar on mine, but I can’t read it very well on the computer :(

Thanks,

Pam, thank you, and I’m flattered to know I inspired you.

C&P from somewhere in the long entry above:
(Components visible: Paper Source White #10 Backing, a mix of Paper Source’s ’red’ and ’pool ’ eyelets and snaps, Clearprint 1000H drafting vellum cut down to size by Printing Palace, white Gocco ink.)

Yes, I got the eyelets and snaps at Paper Source. Good luck with making yours!

my fiance and i want to make tear out rsvp postcards also. how did you get the perforation done? did you have them do it at the place that cut your paper? do you know if there’s a way to do it yourself?

hi chey,
in hindsight, i would have paid a little more for a professional printer to perforate it as my DIY solution ended up not as clean and easy as i thought it would be.

i used this tool and a metal ruler:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2788&PRODID=prd25405&source=search

if you have a rotary paper cutter, they often sell an separate/replacement blade that perforates. this is probably cleaner than my solution, as my hand and/or ruler slipped a few times making crooked lines. here’s an example (i can’t vouch for this product):
