Weight Loss Update

June 27th, 2007 @ 12:48 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

I LOST 15 POUNDS!!!

It’s been over two months since I last weighed myself. Honestly, I fell off the band wagon. I would lose a little weight, get overconfident, treat myself too much and gain it all back. So I stepped off the scale and completely forgot about the weight loss thing.

In my last visit to NYC, I noticed my face was a little thinner in the pictures. I attended another dress fitting and the dress maker also commented I might have lost “some” weight. I hadn’t noticed except my clothes fit a little less hoochie mama-ish. After promising myself not to get overconfident, I stepped on the scale to find out once and for all. I had to do a double take and weigh myself again to make sure the scale was right.

I noticed significant physical changes now. My arms are thinner. My thighs are a lot slimmer, not bulging out of my jeans. My “belly button gut” isn’t as prominent. Yet, I looked in the mirror during the fitting and realized I need to get toned. I used to ride my bike and speed walk alot. With reaching my weight loss goals, I am going to move on to getting physically better in shape. Mr. Snow Pea and I found a bike trail near our house and I am going to start riding.

In terms of eating, I have reached my goal of eating until I am full AND STOPPING!!! I grew up in a finish everything in your rice bowl household. What was presented to me was eaten by me. I could even go for 2 MORE servings before stopping. If given the opportunity, I would order everything on the dollar menu at Wendy’s or Mc D’s. Now I avoid that at all costs and keep nutrigrain or kellogg bars in my bag especially if I know it’s going to be a long day.

How is your weight loss going? What sort of excercises are you doing? Videos? Gym? Trainer? Outdoor activity?

As I said in a previous comment, I am on the Medifast Diet (aka Take Shape For Life). I saw a photo of myself over Memorial Day and was sickened. As of this past Monday, I too have lost 15 lbs… and am half way to my goal weight. I worry that my dress will be too big. Thank GOD for corsets. The diet is healthy (sponsored by a hospital), good for you, and I am not hungry. So, really I am quite happy. It’s great to fit into those clothes that I haven’t seen for a few years! For exercise, I walk and do a little weight training for my arms. 51 days left, and I hope to be in tiptop shape.

I started Weight Watchers last month. I have only lost 4 pounds, but I notice a difference with how clothes fit. I also just started the “Couch to 5K” podcast, which I really like. I want to get into running.

congrats on the weight loss! i have to take a class or else i won’t be consistent…plus with money on the line i’m more likely to show up. but i’ve been doing yoga for about 6 months now and have noticed that i’m starting to slim and tone, especially in my thighs, which i’m excited about. in all, with watching my portion sizes and dropping soda from my diet [i may drink an occasional one now and then] i’ve lost close to 15 pounds since my disasterous weigh-in at the doctor’s office last november. slow and steady works for me.

It’s inspiring to learn what people are doing to approach the weight loss. Has any tried Alli, the over the counter weight loss aid? (eating right, smaller portions, and exercise is always the best route, I know!) I’m curious about it, so figured I’d ask the bees.

Good Job, SP!!! Mr. Kiwi and I are starting to jog (after the afternoon heat subsides) and walk every day, and take the dog for longer walks (also when the sun sets, so the dog doesn’t pass out). I’m also planning on starting to use some weights and maybe do a little bit of ab work. We’ll see about that.

Awesome job dropping a whopping (that rhymed) 15 pounds!

Wowie, I’m so jealous. 15lbs is my goal, and so far, I think I’ve lost about… 3. =/ Good luck with the toning, you’ll look hot!! =)

Great job!! I wish I could forget about weight loss! Right now I have upped my gym activities. Usually elliptical and alternating upper and lower body weights. I am finding that since I started doing the weights my weight has actually gone up a little, but not my measurements. So while frustrating, I am trying to remind myself that muscle weights more than fat! But with less than 2 months to go, I am nervous about all the party food that will be coming my way…gotta stay strong!

Congrats Miss Snow Pea - that’s awesome! I find the gym really is the most helpful thing for toning, and don’t be afraid to lift weights as heavy as you can handle. I always used to shy away from that in fear of “bulking up” but my personal trainer set me straight on that - unless you’re working out with weights every day for several hours, heavy weights will not cause you to bulk up because you don’t exercise enough for that to happen. What it WILL do is tone you up faster and cause you to boost your metabolic rate higher so you’re burning more calories. You should aim to lift weights that exhaust your muscles after 12-15 reps in a set. It worked like a charm for me and toned up my arms and butt really quickly.

I have been finding that calorie counting is helping me to lose weight more than anything else, but that’ probably isn’t relevant to you if you’re now focused on toning more than weight loss.

Miss Snow Pea, the eat everything on your plate thing is definitely a problem for me too, especially when I’m eating with my bf, who tends to eat slower than me. I have to stop myself from eating more just because I’m waiting for him!

As for weight loss, I’m like Tea in that I do best in a class or at least having an exercise partner. I just haven’t found any exercise that I really love, so I have to force myself. Blah.

Keny says:

Congratulations! That is awesome. Must be eating all those yummy snow peas you’ve been growing. I’m on a somewhat diet. I hate to restrict myself, so I too have taken the “eating until I’m full” to heart. Also no alchohol. I eat pretty healthy as it is, but I drink a lot of wine and fruity drinks on the weekend. I’ve been running in the evenings too. Anyway, good luck to all you on your diets :)

Didi says:

way to go miss snow pea! i can relate to the clean your rice bowl upbringing. i’m a guppy too and i’ll just eat and eat and eat until i explode - if given the chance. My BF is mr. fitness so being with him is what allows me to indulge. I eat and he makes sure I go out jogging 2-3mi with him every other day.

That’s awesome! I’m not really trying to lose weight, but I am trying to get in shape. I just started using the Healthy Bride’s Boot Camp Workout. I really like it (though I have to learn to listen to my body when it says ’slow down!’ because today I found myself in some serious pain) so far. It means I don’t have to go to a gym. =D

I think I also have to work on eating more slowly because I really just inhale my food. If I put less on my plate, I eat it more slowly. I’m trying, and my pants are a little looser (my derriere is where all my food seems to go)!

Meleven, I just bought the Ali book last week. I recommend starting with that. There is a “pre-diet” in there, to get you and your body used to eating a low-fat diet before taking the pills. I have started following the eating plan and so far it is really easy…you just eat everything uou KNOW you should eat and avoid everything you KNOW you shouldn’t eat. I’ll start the pills next week…and of course I am exercising too! Good luck!

Amanda says:

I stopped weighing myself because it would be frustrating if i exercised a lot/ate well and only lost a pound.
But starting back in March I began going to the gym abou 3 times a week, doing about 15 min of weights, and 45 min to an hour on the elliptical or stepper.
Then when it got nice out, I cut down on the gym a bit so I could be outside — I started walking the dog longer, and now I’ve been getting up early before work to jog/walk for about half an hour. I’m up to being able to jog a mile and a half without stopping. And we pulled our bikes out, and try to go for a long bike ride or two on the weekend.
Not sure what my weight is, but I had absolutely no backfat at my (strapless) dress fitting memorial day weekend :) and my clothes fit looser. yay! I just have to make sure not to slip over the next 7 weeks!

Also, after Christmas break my Fiance and I have been making a point to eat healthier. We buy lots of fruits and veggies, and I bring veggies to snack on at work instead of snacking on pretzels all the time like I used to.

Iris says:

Congrats! Feel beautiful and healthful!

It’s great when one gets to the point where the cutbacks and habits that were originally “sacrifices” become a new healthy habits, not deprivations.

Go Amie says:

Meleven - alli is barely effective; users lose an average of only three pounds more over a *year* than non-users following the same diet. In addition, alli has some disgusting side-effects, including uncontrollable, explosive diarrhea. In fact, the makers recommend that users carry an extra set of pants with them, both for the diarrhea and for the “anal seepage” of oil.

I’d pass, if I were you!

Cindy says:

congrats! i have a year to go, so right now i’m doing kickboxing twice a week, but not watching the diet as closely (groan.) but i haven’t been a fan of a lot of sweets in years so i just need to monitor the food intake.

and i’m from a “eat what’s in front of you” and if my grandma is around, she’ll toss in more when you’re not looking family.

Iris says:

Go Amie: You are so funny! I love how when those “Fat Trapper” pill ads first came out they showed everyone at a pool party, eating burgers/dogs & wearing swimsuits in the pool… It’s all fun and games until the oily anal seepage begins.

26.
kanipark says:

yeah… keep it up :)

Go Amie says:

Iris - Ew! I am never going in a swimming pool again!
