Petal Aisle

June 28th, 2007 @ 1:31 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

I’m not a big fan of aisle runners. To each their own–just not for me. Instead, I’m going the petal route. There is a long driveway to the church and I’m planning on hauling in a couple of tons of rose petals to cover every inch of the asphalt. Very romantic.

And of course, I am kidding. Can you imagine how much that would cost!?

Here are a few sites for silk petals and freeze dried petals:

Petal Garden
Fly Boy Naturals

Or there are these guys: Petal fabric? Interesting.

Heh…you fooled me. I totally just rolled my eyes at the opulence of it all :)

I can’t figure out aisle runners for the life of me…it seems no matter what your dress is going to drag half of it down the aisle with you!

When I first started reading this post - I was like “and readers say that there aren’t bees with a high budget”

ha ha .. oh well for that. FYI my partner and I love reading your posts.

I got petals from Flyboy Naturals and they look terrific.

I wanted a petal aisle, but was told “no real petals, a guest could slip.” Not even dried ones. And I wasn’t going to throw non-biodegradable “silk”petals outside. So I ended up with the venue’s aisle runner and my flower girl throwing dried petals (I figured that by the time the venue noticed, it would be over.) Except she didn’t throw very many, I noticed later that the basket was still mostly full!

I’m intrigued by the petal fabric, though. And Miss Corn–my gown didn’t drag the runner, and I had a train. Maybe they tacked it down?

Cheers to no aisle runners! Although honestly, not a huge fan of petals in the aisle either. Less is more! Many churches and ceremony venues are beautiful without too much fussiness. Added bonus: one less item on the to-do list.

yeah…but how do you tack all the petals down?

I might be tempted by the petal fabric, though I’d probably cut the runner in half lengthwise and make petal gutters on my aisle. But I’d worry too much about it looking fake, so I’ll probably go with real. My ceremony venue allows real petals on their lawn anyway.

I think I’d get my heel lodged in the petal fabric and nose-dive halfway down the aisle. I’m thinking either real petals or nothing - or maybe petals on the church platform only?

Ok I am so confused, what is the benefit of freeze dried petals? are they cheaper. I am using tons of petals all around…so I am very curious…

No aisle runner, no petals here. The aisle down our church is a little bit on an angle, the pastor said aisle runners never lay quite straight.
One less thing to worry about!

Ha! I totally bought it ;-)

I’m not much for the aisle runner myself, we’re going to do a bumper (as my florist termed it!) of petals along the grassy aisle.

Yeah, I’m not much of an aisle runner gal and petals aren’t allowed at my site…..what to do, what to do…..

I love how that one guy in the picture with the red rose petals has his foot planted right on them next to his chair! Klassy, dude…

I feel sp bad for the people who have to clean the petals up. I won’t have anything on my aisle…the church has a lovely carpet that covers it, and I’m just fiiiiine with that. I’d rather spend that cash on more alcohol or something!

“sp” = so

I don’t edit so well when it’s this close to quitin’ time.

I think the petal borders would be a little more practical to walk through than a petal aisle, because unless the bride goes first (not likely), wouldn’t the petal aisle be all messed up by the time she gets there? And still the petals will be stuck to the bottom of a dragging hemline, possibly causing stains? Oh, this is too much for me…

I love petals… but we can’t use them at our church.

:-(

We are doing something like this, which I found out about from one of the bees. We’ll probably be using loose orchids because my florist things the petals will blow away in our windy location, and, since we are in Hawai’i it makes more sense.

Im not a fan of aisle runners but I would totally love walking on hundreds of flower petals… so romantic! But the cleaning up is an issue. I was thinking about lining the “aisle” with rectangular planters of those green grass. Dunno what they’re called.. wheat grass or something?
