About Mrs. Corn

Too Much, Too Late

June 28th, 2007 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. Corn

So it dawned on me after a comment on one of my recent posts that I have an awful lot of graphics that we are incorporating into the wedding. I think there are four specific designs we are using, six if you count the two fonts that have found their way onto everything.

The lobster, clam, hydrangea and monogram seem a bit much to me when I think about it, and now I am worried that it won’t all look cohesive in the end, but rather like a hodge-podge of mismatched, icon overkill.
The lobster is on our save-the-date, the response cards, the stamps on the envelopes for the response cards and the table place cards.

The clam is on the outer invitation envelope, the out-of-towner newsletter, the escort cards, and the table tents.

The hydrangea is on the escort card envelopes, the front of the programs and the wedding thank-you cards.

The monogram is on the back of the save-the-dates, the back of the invitations, the inner invitation envelope flaps, the stamps for the invitations, and on the cake!

I realize it is too late to change it now, but do you think people will just be confused by the mess of different graphics we are using?

And I fancied myself a designer! HA!

I think it’s sweet. It’s like each one is a bit of your wedding “puzzle”. When the big day arrives, all the pieces will form one big picture. :)

If you stuck to a strict color scheme that is consistent, i think it will still work.

NO way, I love all the graphic design elements you’ve incorporated into your wedding. Besides, they all “fit” into your wedding theme.

Not at all. The only way it would be overkill or out of place would be if you had an icon on something that wasn’t on anything else. Then it would stand out. It’s ok to have more than one graphic - it’s like little clues telling your guests all the elements to expect at your wedding.

I Am a designer and we had leaves, a dog, a mailbox, a tree, and seashore motifs left and right - no worries. As long as everything is consistent it will makes sense and you’ve used color and application consistently so you’re fine! We all know what we’ve seen thus far has been wonderful - don’t worry it will be great.

I agree — it’s a New England summer “mood board.”

Agree with Mthreestudio about sticking to a cohesive color scheme. Maybe for remaining projects just stick to one of the motifs. This is the very reason that we’re only using the fleur-de-lis!

I think it’s great, but if it bothers you, why not make something with all of the different icons to put near your guest book tree? Maybe use the icons on whatever the guests will write on, so your guests can pick their favorite to use for their wishes.

Or, if that’s way too much DIY at this point, maybe just incorporate them all on your sign explaining the guest book tree. A little scene if you will. A lazy clam and a cute lobster near a hydrangea bush with your monogram floating in the sky. Ok, I skipped lunch so my levels are clearly off, but you get the idea! (Maybe a border pattern using the objects, and the monogram on the top).

Don’t stress. We “get it” - it’s easy to “get.” I think the lobster and the clam kind of cancel each other out anyway - they’re both seafood :-).

Trust me, they’re all “New England seaside vacation” icons and they’re all cute. Just don’t throw in a candy cane or something.

Perhaps find a way to incorporate all three of those main symbols into a simple design. Seeing all three in one place might allow guests to find the cohesion a bit more easily.

I personally feel that things can get to motif-y and matchy-matchy, so I think it’s nice you have a variety! I guess I never knew how hydrangea fit in, but that’s nice if it’s part of your New England theme. :-) STILL love it!
