“Love Is Sweet”

June 29th, 2007 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Jelly Beans

Because I absolutely love sugar and pretty much anything sweet, e.g. I put sugar crystals all over my spaghetti, it was a no-brainer that we were going to have a candy buffet. (Disclaimer: My actions in regards to my spaghetti are not necessarily endorsed by my family and friends).

It took me awhile to to figure out what containers to provide for our candy buffet because there were so many choices. I narrowed it down to glassine containers vs. white take out boxes. In the end the cute take out boxes won. I placed pink stickers on each box with our names and wedding date on them. I absolutely love how they turned out. I also cleaned out the local dollar store and bought all their stainless steel scoops. What a deal! :)

1/2 pint white take-out boxes from Paper Mart at .09 cents each or $4.65 for a package of 50

Petal Pink Lace Trimmed Stickers from Ebay. They have quite a shimmer to them which is a must have in my book.

Speaking of deals, I was walking through our local pharmacy and saw a bin full of pink M&M’s. I was really having a difficult time finding all pink candy. So this was definitely a sign from above. And to make things even “sweeter” they were on sale! Yipeee! The lady at the register probably thought I was insane. And so did my family when I walked in with bags and bags of candy.

In my travels to complete our pink candy buffet, I stumbled upon the cutest thing ever - pink popcorn! Now why didn’t I think of that? They would look sooo darn cute next to all the different shades of pink candy.

My DIY wheels started turning and with the help of google, I found a recipe for Pink Elephant Popcorn!

I shouldn’t be the only one privy to this information, so here it is for all the bridal world to see. And it sure doesn’t sound like it would be difficult to make. My bridesmaids and I will be making our first attempt this weekend. Pictures will be posted depending on the outcome. Wish us luck! :)

Pink Elephant Popcorn Recipe

Source: Kitchen, Crafts & More/Online Recipes

3 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
4 tablespoons dry strawberry flavored gelatin
2 quarts popped popcorn

Melt butter over low heat. Stir in marshmallows until they are soft but not melted. Add flavored gelatin mix. Stir until everything is a nice pink color throughout. (The gelatin may not dissolve completely, but that’s all right.) Pour evenly over popcorn and stir until all flakes are evenly coated.

Miss Jelly Beans,
I’d like to know more about the stickers: How much were they? Did the ship quickly? Do you recommend the vendor?
Thank you!

You think buying a whole load of pink M&M’s is crazy? Try standing in a Bulk Barn for 2 hours picking the purple jelly beans out of the multicoloured Easter jelly bean bin for our candy buffet…we got quite a number of strange looks

Thinking along the lines of pink & sweet & fluffy & sparkly & feminine (I’m catching a pattern here)… would it be too crazy to rent a cotton candy machine? Or a snowcone machine if it’s going to be a hot summer day outdoors…?

depending on your set-up I know a recipe to make some awesome pink candy cane fudge http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Candy-Cane-Fudge/Detail.aspx, it was my only fudge that worked correctly last Christmas, and everyone loved it, I also love pink!!!! I’m so happy you were able to find some stuff. I will be looking for pale pink, blue, and green soon.

You really put sugar on your spaghetti?

Wait, so the take-out boxes are cheaper individually than in bulk? How unusual.

Also, I think putting sugar on spaghetti is much less weird than putting salt on watermelon, which is what my sister-in-law does. She says it’s a Southern thing; I just think it’s crazy!

Sugar on spaghetti is a Filipino thing, no?

Very cute stickers! Salt on watermelon or salt on pineapple makes it taste sweeter.

Millie

Hi Miss Jelly Beans - I wanted to ask about the take-out boxes? Have you ordered them already? If so, are you happy with the vendor? I am considering ordering the same take-out boxes from them, but am not too sure yet.

Hi Millie- Yes I have the boxes, they are really cute especially when decorated, I ordered the smaller ones. They were quick to come and packaged well. I had no issues with them. They are also good with responding to your emails/questions…

Does it matter what brand of flavored gelatin you use? I’d love to be able to make Tiffany Blue-colored popcorn, but I would like to make sure I’m buying the right stuff!
