As you can tell from the title of this post, I thought I should share with all of you our venue, as well as the journey finding it…
When Mr. Peppermint and I got engaged, one of the first decisions we made was to have the wedding in Palm Springs. Not only is that where Mr. Peppermint proposed, but it’s been a favorite weekend getaway for the last three years. We wanted everyone to see that it wasn’t just a land for retired golfers and spa enthusiasts. We’ve had so many great trips out there and wanted to share that with our family and friends. However, when I first started the planning process, I quickly got overwhelmed (a common reaction, I gather). And having the wedding 90 miles away (and with LA traffic!) has created some challenges–especially because I couldn’t just drop by to view a venue. Instead, we had to have a game plan.

So today is my 32nd birthday. I can hardly believe all that has happened in a year. A year ago, Mr. Corn and I were still having awkward conversations about our future based on the fact that he had wanted to buy a house for years and was finally in the financial situation to do so, and he was focused on that rather than the future of our relationship.
As it was, we ended up looking at houses together and choosing the home we now both live in over the course of last summer. Shortly after Mr. Corn moved in, he proposed to me over dinner.** It was our first non-macaroni-out-of-a-box dinner at the new house and it will forever be special to me that we shared that moment at our dining room table in our first home.
I moved in not long after the proposal and the wedding planning began. In the meantime, Mr. Corn was promoted at his job, his brother got married in December and I got a really great new job in January. Read more…
Line of the day: “We’ll make it so the hem just *kisses* her toe”.
Yippee! My second fitting! During the first fitting, the pattern maker made a pattern based on my friend Karla’s sketch. She fit the pattern on me and then tweaked it to my body. This time she made a revised pattern based on those revisions and completed the shape of the skirt.
I walked down the hallway and up to the door. I opened up the door and there was My Dress. It took my breath away. I could see the potential in it already and it’s still only sewn in muslin.

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
One of the first things that we took care of was finding a venue, since we couldn’t really set a date and get the ball rolling until we did that. Initially, I kept saying that I didn’t really care that much about the venue and that I just wanted something affordable. We even looked into having a tented reception in our best man’s backyard (he offered). But - as we started looking at places, the more we realized that we DID care and that we are actually very picky people. Who knew?
There were certain things that we decided we wanted early on. We wanted someplace “scenic” that didn’t look like a mall, as Mr. Radish put it, something preferably near the water (Syracuse has several lakes and rivers), and someplace that could incorporate a vegetarian/vegan menu (I’m a vegetarian and Mr. Radish is vegan). It was, however, rather difficult to find a venue that fit these criteria that was also within our price range. We really didn’t want to spend more than $45 per person including open bar. Luckily, in Upstate New York this is possible but we still had to do some digging. Read more…
Money is always a sticky subject - but it can be very interesting!
We’re actually going to start asking readers to submit their real budgets, and publish them on weddingbee. Hopefully it’ll be a helpful feature… stay tuned!
As a follow-up to our budget post yesterday, I thought it was interesting to see how many readers thought the average Weddingbee blogger has a very high budget. That didn’t jibe with our sense for the average Bee’s budget.
So we went back and did a little calculating… what do you think the average Bee’s budget is?

That I stole. There I said it. I’m an idea thief. You caught me.
As a matter of fact, I’ve stolen most of my wedding ideas. My confetti poppers come from the brilliant mind of my florist, my bouquet right off the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings, and my lantern centerpieces were the brainchild of knottie NetterB.
My latest idea comes in the form of soda-pop. I’m not a big drinker, so this is right up my alley. Knotties Mrs. Donkey and PDXDFWbride both had mini soda bars and one of my clients/weddingbee reader, wsukarebear, tossed around the idea of having one as well.

So because I have nothing else to do but work, eat, sleep, and plan our dream wedding, I decided I needed another DIY project to add to all the pending wedding projects!
Since we are having a hugantic bridal party, I needed several gift bags to place all their thank you gifts in. Enter DIY lightbulb!
I purchased plain, white gift bags from Michael’s, busted out my precious Vintage Paris Stamp Set, warmed up my stamping muscles and you have the makings of a new craft mission.
For everyone that is travelling to a hot ’n happy honeymoon destination, the Environmental Working Group has tested and rated 783 different products with sunscreen and written a report on the safest and most effective sunscreens available on the market. Ratings include sunscreen effectiveness from blocking both UVA and UVB rays and health hazards from ingredients that the products include.
They also have a list of “worst sunscreens” as well.
Actually, we all would do well to use this information. I’m training my beau to wear sunscreen everyday!

Getting ready (and slightly freaking) for her wedding this weekend! I can’t believe I’m already in the middle of the last week as a “Miss”! Sorry I’ve been MIA…
This past Sunday some of my church friends threw a bridal shower for me. Here are some pics…enjoy!
With just over two weeks to go, I actually am pretty calm (I know, shocker!).
We only have a couple of DIY projects left, and this past weekend we drove up to NY for my sister’s graduation and took almost all of the wedding crap with us, including the gifts for everyone who is helping with anything. While we were at home, we also got our marriage license, so here we are - we can officially get married in the State of NY!!!

I’ll start where we left off.
With all this talk of wedding dreams lately, I thought I’d step up and offer a few excerpts from my Wedding Dream Interpretation Handbook, compiled after several minutes’ research. Don’t worry; I’m more than qualified. I took Psych 101.
Dream Element: Rings/garters/wreaths. Meaning: You feel you’re moving in circles. You may be experiencing anxiety about tasks already completed, and feel the urge to double check that your invitations have been addressed correctly. Suggested Remedy: Eat a bowl of Apple Jacks or work on some embroidery. Engage your miniature dachsund in a game of Aerobie. Avoid rubber bands.
Dream Element: Invitations/save-the-dates/marriage license/documents. Meaning: You have subconscious hesitation about the legal aspects of marriage: shared finances, wills, etc. Suggested Remedy: Run a few pages of The Knot magazine through the shredder. Play Sudoku with a feather quill. Don’t order Girl Scout Cookies. Read more…
An excerpt from a groomsman conversation today
GM: OMG I can’t be a groomsman anymore -I don’t want to be in front of all those people bc I haven’t had enough time to work out yet!
Groom: Seriously?
GM: OMG YEAHHH - Everyone’s gonna be looking at me! I need to look good - I might back out if I don’t lose 5 lbs by the end of the week. I’m going to hit the gym every night this week.
Apparently, weddings are about different things to different people.
