About Mrs. Bee

Please Help Us Decide!

July 1st, 2007 @ 12:58 am by Mrs. Bee

You guys had so many great suggestions for our next batch of flower characters, it was too difficult for us to narrow them down!  We’re definitely gonna have a peony (there’ll be an all out war for that one), but we need to choose nine more.  So please tell us which 9 out of the 17 flowers below we should choose. :)

Please keep in mind that we’re looking for the following variables: 1) a variety of color, 2) flowers that don’t look similar to one another, and 3) flowers that you think will be popular as characters.

Here are the choices:

Peony & Cherry Blossom

peonycherry
(via greenhem & artcatcher)

Buttercup & Daffodil

buttercupdaffodil
(via gtj-45 & Flutterbye8567)

Jasmine & Gardenia

jasmineflower.jpggardenia
(via almostviola & YNatsuno)

Lily of the Valley & Hydrangea (also in pink, purple, and blue)

lilyhydrangea
(via henribonell & reiusu)

Magnolia (also in white) & Snapdragon (also in yellow, orange, red, purple)

magnoliasnapdragon
(via Soren Lorenson & machado17)

Dahlia & Zinnia* (both in pink, orange, yellow, red, white)

dahliazinnia
(via Curlgirl1 & buttersweet)

Lilac (also in pink) & Hyacinth**

lilac2hyacinth
(via sarahface & limowreck666)

Tulip (every color of the rainbow) & Calla Lily (also in white, yellow)

tuliporangecalla
(via duvyna & Isabella P)

Sweet Pea*** & Petunia (also in pink)

sweetpeatPetunia_Purple
(via becca3k & ilovemycamera

Some things to consider:

* the dahlia & zinnia may look too much alike
** lilac & hyacinth are virtually identical so grape hyacinth is pictured
*** the sweet pea looks similar to Miss Orchid’s character
*** sweet pea is similar to Miss Snow Pea, buttercup is similar to Miss Butterscotch, and lily of the valley/calla lily is similar to Miss Lily.  They’d all be married by the time we launched the flowers, but let us know if you think it’d cause any confusion.

With that in mind… please tell us your 9 picks (peony is #10)! :)

Tulip, Dahlia, Peony, Magnolia, Hydrangea, Sweet Pea, Daffodil, Cherry Blossom, Snapdragon

You already have a miss lily, I think, and doing any version of that (lily of valley, calla) might be a little much?

1) lilac (purple- cluster shape) [that's what i would want to be, so maybe you should save it for later and not pick it now, haha]
2) peony (pink-big, round shape)
3) cherry blossom (pink- maybe a branch w a few blooms) [that would be a popular flower]
4) dahlia (orange- round shape)
5) tulip (red- cup shape) [but could be any color to fill in]
6) jasmine (white- star shape)
7) daffodil (yellow- star shape)
8) magnolia (white- large, rounded petals) [makes me think of a southern bee]
9) snapdragon (red- cluster shape)

*the lilies might get confused, tho the shapes are very different from each other. and sweet pea is similar to miss snow pea.

*and maybe a set of birds in the future. that would provide lots of color options as well. :)

Include at least:
dahlia
zinnia (if you use a less petal-y zinnia it won’t look as similar to the dahlia because they have teeny florets in the center: http://tinyurl.com/2pbt9u or http://tinyurl.com/36rmfy)
tulip
snapdragon
daffodil
hydrangea
cherry blossom

hard call on all the lilies…

No preference on the flowers but someone’s comment made me think, the next batch of bees could be spices - cinnamon, rosemary, sage, thyme, chili, etc.!

I like:
Peony, cherry blossom, buttercup (five petals, yellow), daffodil (six petals, and can be white & gold instead of solid yellow), jasmine, gardenia, magnolia (more of a purply-tinged rose color), dahlia, tulip (definitely bright red), petunia.

If you’re concerned about repeating colors, tulip can be bright red while dahlia is dark, almost burgundy; and lilacs can be, well, lilac, while the hyacinth can be darker or bluer.

too many to make a list of favourites, but just a comment: you could call the bee Miss Calla, instead of Miss Calla Lily. I’ve certainly heard many people call the flowers “callas.”

I’d also lean towards using flowers that a popular in bridal arrangements. it just seems appropriate to me :)

I was just thinking about popular wedding flowers…and I think Miss Ranauculus-sp. is very popular right now! For some reason I can’t find a picture worth including–weird!

Miss Mum (Chrysanthemum-sp.) - there are tons of varieties, otherwise they can end up looking like a dahlia. This is a spider mum, seen in a lot of weddings in a pretty green! http://tinyurl.com/38v8f9

Miss Gerbera - probably too close to Miss Daisy, but a popular flower none the less!

Miss Anemone–not the sea life. :-) They have pretty dark centers that would make a bold statement. http://tinyurl.com/2wnndd

Miss Celosia - Also called cockscomb–ha ha, don’t know how a Miss Cockscomb would go over! http://tinyurl.com/2uexuu

Anyway, here are my picks:
Tulip
Cherry Blossom
Daffodil
Jasmine
Gardenia
Snapdragon
Magnolia
Dahlia
Petunia

Haha, I think I’m the only person who doesn’t go crazy for peonies. And you’re right, sweet pea, although a very cute name, sounds much too similar to snow pea and I would be confused. I’m sure the colors would be different but it’s still similar.

I also REALLY like Forget-me-not. Adorable name, no? =)

I have to be a stickler but the picture that is being used for jasmine looks like it’s actually stephanotis. Jasmine isn’t that waxy and doesn’t flower the same way. Stephanotis is my favorite flower so I’d vote for it if it was one of the choices.

cherry blossom, daffodil, gardenia, hydrangea, tulip, snapdragon, calla lily, dahlia and lilac
