My Only Secret Is Out

I’ve been a bad girl. I took out a credit card behind my husband’s back just to buy my wedding gown two Novembers ago. He found out yesterday. Ask me how?! Ask me how?!  We went to shop around for condos and they needed to do a credit check, which was totally fine with me cause they were asking him the questions. THEN they turned to me and asked me for my info. I’m thinking “SH*TF*CKSH*TSH*T!”

The guy, Rick, runs the credit report and announces that I, Mrs. Ladybug, the Supreme Being, have better credit than the husband who brags about his credit. It turns out that we both have really good credit; mine’s just better (I win). Then he takes us through the report and my “secret” credit card is listed with a balance. I pretend that it’s fraud and that I don’t know what it is. Then this Discover card charge comes up that I have a balance of $750. I NEVER opened a Discover account!!! WTF man. Another good thing to know is that just because you cut up your card don’t mean your account is closed even though the balance is at $0. You need to call and close it. Good tip.

We went out for a smoke and I confessed about my “secret” card and surprisingly he wasn’t mad! SHOCKING. He was more mad that my credit was better than his. Wow, huge load off my shoulders! That was my only secret I was keeping from him. It’s not that I needed his blessing to get a credit card, it’s just the fact that I got a card JUST to pay for my dress I knew might have upset him.

My husband and I both have a lot of CC debt - but that was before we were married. We’re both working to pay it all off, and I have put aside all my cards to have just in case of emergencies… i really really hate credit cards. Glad he wasn’t angry with you! :)

LOL! That kinda sounds like how I am when Mr Jelly Beans checks our Paypal account… “I dont know who bought a vintage bird cage… it wasnt me!”

And yes we all knew you were the Supreme Being… hands down :)P

It’s better for your credit if you keep accounts open, even if the balance is $0. The longer the credit history, the better. Also, the lower the balance to limit ratio, the better.

I used to have bad credit (can you tell) and have worked to bring it up ;)

I just read my post. It sounds like I’m being contradictory to Mrs. Ladybug. As she says, if you’re trying to hide an account, then yes - cut it up ;)!

That’s story was hilarious! I still can’t believe your gorgeous gown was only $750! I must say you are a savvy shopper.

icucats: no the $750 is for a card that isn’t mine. the other card is the card that i spent on the gown.

It’s a good thing you guys caught that Discover card fraud. My hubby was really worried about credit check when we were buying our house because he’d been a very naughty college boy. He had a bad credit but with *ahem* my help and diligence, I was sure his credit must’ve improved. Boy it did. His credit score rocks. Just goes to show that anyone can raise their credit rating by working hard at it. Normally we are both pretty competitive with a lot of things; but he was so surprised and thrilled with his score that he didn’t care I left his score in the dust. Muhahaha.
