The Ultimate Wedding Band

July 2nd, 2007 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

A fun pastime Mr. Peppermint and I have developed since we got engaged is to play the Ultimate Wedding Band game. The name pretty much says it all, but just in case, here’s a basic rundown: If you could have any band (or solo act) perform at your wedding regardless of cost, dead or alive, who would you pick?!

You’d think this game would get boring quick, but you’d be surprised. Often times our favorite singers don’t cut the bill because I don’t want to have a night of rock ballads. Or whiny chick music. It’s important to think of versatility–can they perform both upbeat, get-people-on-the-dance-floor sort of music as well as romantic, lets-sway-until-morning-love-song?

Our ultimate winner (thus far) is Belle & Sebastian. Honorable mentions go out to the Beach Boys, Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Pink Martini.

Who is your ultimate wedding band??

Hands down Beatles….or Elton John.

Oh, we play this game all the time! I’ve decided on Prince, with Paul Simon as an opening act!

Pink Martini!

That’s so funny - my fiance is obsessed with Belle and Sebastian.

Angie says:

Bon Jovi!!!!! They were our first date! :)

I would have to second the Beattles and Elvis.

Oh good lord I would crap my pants** if B & S played my wedding. They are only like my favorite band, ever.

*probably not literally, but maybe.

Miss Jelly Beans says:

Dont judge, but Justin Timberlake… although he would probably steal my thunder… lol… :)P

Miss Eggplant says:

John Mayer. He is amazing on a guitar and he can rock out or play sappy, mushy stuff. I especially loved when the John Mayer Trio was making music together. They had the blues/rock thing goin’ ON.

But then again, he’s always jaded in his love songs so on second thought, perhaps he’s not the best bet for a wedding. :-)

I’d have to go with my man Ben Folds, or my other men, Counting Crows. So many different songs, but all well written and using _real_ musical instruments! ;)

We do this too-we’re stuck between Barenaked Ladies and U2.

hmm for dead entertainers, definitely elvis.

for those who are alive, i always said i’d want marc anthony to sing at my wedding. i like his sound and his songs. but lifehouse has some of my favorite wedding songs.

but i’ll take a backstreet boys, nsync or 98 degrees reunion at my wedding. :-D

You do know that Pink Martini started out playing weddings here in Portland? I guess they’ve come full circle.

I would either go with Pink Martini or They Might Be Giants. TMBG would definitely get our crowd out there and moving. Plus, they are just some of the sweetest guys ever.

Gypsy Kings!

christina says:

Iron & Wine because our song is “Such Great Heights” - their version from the Garden State soundtrack (our first date movie).
I would LOVE No Doubt playing ONLY No Doubt songs too (none of that solo Gwen stuff- ick!).

Of course, I’d love to have Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash sing at our wedding, but they’re no longer with us. Among the living musicians, I’d have to say, Hayseed Dixie or Red Elvises. Both bands put on one heck of a show.

ABBA?

Bridezilla says:

The Hush Sound! They’re adorable, and they’d get people dancing.

23.
Buffy says:

Brian Setzer Orchestra - Not so much for his unique musique, but for his ability to cover swing and big band dance music with some rock to it.

I second (third, fourth?) the No Doubt selection. They are awesome live, and have appropriately dancey and sweet songs.

And if it wouldn’t kill my fiance - a boy band, glitter girls reunion (go MMC) at my wedding would be fun too.

But the best? Dixie Chicks! They would be so much fun.

Ooh, this is a fun game–my fiance’s choice “hands down” is the Flaming Lips.

I would probably go with Nickel Creek.

Lifehouse *sigh*…

I would so have to have Lifehouse. But then, of course, the wedding might not happen as I run away with the bassist, lol…
