About Mrs. Eggplant

Yup, you heard right. The Eggplants actually took care of something on their list before the little red exclamation marks on the Knot Checklist appeared. The guys got fitted for their tuxes on Saturday! An associate at the store told us that they were actually getting fitted too early and measurements should take place closer to the wedding date to accommodate weight loss/gain. Oh well. One of the groomsmen was visiting from San Diego, so Mr. Eggplant wanted to take care of fittings earlier than later.

Honestly, tuxes all look pretty much the same to me, so they were definitely something I was not going to be bridezilla about. We went to Men’s Wearhouse to take advantage of the “free groom’s tux” and “free vest & tie rental” coupons.

The Men’s Wearhouse has a decent amount of color options available. All the guys are getting black tuxes, but I wanted the groomsmen to wear one color vest, and for Mr. Eggplant to stand out a bit with another color.

First option: groomsmen wear light pink and Mr. Eggplant wears fuchsia, since the bridesmaid dresses will be light pink with a fuchsia sash.. But I didn’t think the fuschia vest looked that great, especially against Mr. Eggplant’s light skin tone.

I finally decided that the groomsmen will wear light pink and Mr. Eggplant will wear a white vest and tie with silver striping. Spiffy!

Seriously, the guys did not care one bit how I dressed them. They would’ve worn Superman underoos outside of their tux pants had I requested. I’m glad they were good sports and didn’t complain at all, even when I brought out the tacky bright pink.

why would you call the bright pink “tacky”? i think it’s tackier you picked the light pink…

pink, the fuschia vest just drew too much attention without a jacket on. it would look fine if it was just the top of the vest peaking out of jacket, but i thought that this:

looked better than this (at least on my pale skinned guy):

Sigh. There’s no making people happy when it comes to pink and weddings, in my opinion. I wanted my MOH and BMs to wear fuchsia, thinking they would prefer that to light pink — but the reverse was true. Someone else then said: light pink? yuck!.
Guess what? You have to do what you feel good about and what you like. I’m still 8 months away from my wedding and I’m starting to feel like I’m done asking people if they like my choice on something or not.
Choose what YOU like Miss Eggplant!
=)

i dig the silver and light pink combo for the groom. and yea, i’d think the guys would prefer the light pink over the fuschia. in any case, glad that was a painless experience!

very true, unfortunately there’s no pleasing everyone. :-) I didn’t mean to offend fuschia lovers… fuschia is accenting the BM dresses, but for some reason the shade looked quite funny on the GM.

Interesting that they told you it was too early… FH and I did tux stuff about a month ago and we are getting married in October as well!

Hi Miss Eggplant! We are going with the pink vests for the GM as well. Mr Jelly Beans will be wearing a cream vest so that he stands out. Your vests kinda look like what we picked. Its not called “Rio” is it? :)

um PINK? not to ruin your color choice but I think pink is way overused. an example is 2 years ago, i went to 3 weddings and all 3 had a variation of pink. plus, not all guys can pull off pink.

sorry to be negative but dont want you to look back at pics 10 years from now and wonder why you chose those colors. like the 70’s when people had brown suits or tuxedos. i bet they regret it!

We chose and paid for our tuxes when we were nine months. We’re getting married in November. One of our gms went in right after we paid for the tuxes and I received a phone call from the tuxedo rental place that it was way too early for fittings.

I think your color choices will look great on the guys.

My FI picked the same light pink ensemble himself and we love it. I don’t know how it’s tacki(er) to pick the light pink. And I don’t think we’ll regret anything that is part of the best day of our lives 10 years from now. Same thing for wedding dresses, I can see yes, we probably will look back and think “Eeeek! Look at that (pick up/strapless/etc etc plug in whatever some people like to criticize here). NOT what’s in fashion in 2017.” But I honestly doubt my groom or I will actually “regret” what we wore. It was what made us feel beautiful on our big day. So what if it’s “not in fashion” 10 years later?

Funny, i’m working on the wedding slide show and i just scanned my mom’s wedding picture from the 70’s. She’s wearing a dress with lacy, long, puffy sleeves, which I’m sure = today’s strapless dress. :-)

Pink is very Preppy, Partially on a fellow!
Hot Pink and Lime are still the color rage in New England. (Thanks Lilly)

Yeah, you do look back and laugh at some choices… We didn’t want deja vu of the over color-coordinated prom look, so we went with Burberry — black & white only; as you can imagine they don’t offer wacky colors. Can’t go wrong with timeless menswear.

Oh, another tip is to double-check what the waitstaff and band will be wearing, so as to not look like the vendors. Dreadful!
