About Mrs. Corn

I Need Help

July 4th, 2007 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Corn

My mom helped me make these cards for the wish tree when she was here a few weekends ago. Basically we trimmed the corners off of a few packs of Paper-Source expressions tags, punched holes in them and then tied ribbons on them. The square glass jar I found at the Container Store for about $7.

Here, again for your reference, is the tree I plan on using for the guests to hang the wishes from:

I Need Help : wedding diy guestbook newport Branche I plan on making a sign in a similar style to the table number signs below to put next to the tree to encourage people to participate.

But I need help figuring out what to say on the sign so that it gets across to my guests that this is also my guest book, and the one and only place to sign if they are planning on doing so. All I can come up with is this (totally stolen from a picture I saw on a knottie bio):

Wish Tree

We invite you to send a special wish to Mrs. Corn and Mr. Corn as they begin their life together and hang it on their wish tree.

(please don’t forget to sign your name!)

Or perhaps…

Guest Book Wish Tree

Please send a special wish to ‘Mrs Corn’ and ‘Mr Corn’ as they begin their life together and hang it on the wish tree.

Don’t forget to sign your name!!

Or if I really want to go nuts I could just lay it all out:

Yet another attempt at making our wedding unique

Sign your name on one of these slips of paper and then hang it on the tree. Preferably, we would like you to include words of wisdom or advice for the newlyweds. Lastly, please be as creative as possible. Sketches, drawings and unique handwriting styles are especially appreciated.

EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS…IT IS THE GUESTBOOK!! I know you can figure this out, people. Just do it.

Kidding, Bee readers; I am kidding. :)

you need to stack the deck. people will imitate what others have done so if you want creative sketches then have a creative friend go first. same thing goes for words of wisdom etc.

nice idea.

The grammar in the first two is a bit off - the subjects don’t match the verbs (i.e. “you” send, mr & mrs “begin” - and then “hang”). Does that make sense??

I actually like your one best - without the last bit :)

I agree that you should have a creative person go first. My FSIL is getting married next May and is doing a scrapbook that will involve using a bound notebook style scrapbook and then cutting it to size after the wedding, so she has enlisted me to do the first one as an example of where to sign and what to do.
I think you should spell it out a little in the sign too.
Please let us know what wording you use! I’m sure it will be helpful to others.

If you have any young cousins, neices, nephews, etc. maybe you can give one of them the “special job” of welcoming people to the reception and encouraging them to sign your guest book tree…kids always love these special jobs!

What a cute idea…but the jar opening looks small, you might want to see if its easy for a man to grab one of the wishes out.

I had the same concern with my guest book, which required guests to take photos in our photobooth and then paste one copy in a scrapbook and (hopefully) have them write a note to us. So, I started the sign with “In lieu of a traditional guestbook…” and gave some basic instructions. Make sure the tree is in an area where guests must pass by and, like others have said, probably get someone to invite the first couple of guests to do it….everyone will follow.

If there are a lot of people around the area, then the sign might get a bit lost, so make sure you have an attendant there to let people know what to do. I went to a wedding where they had a polaroid guest book. There were attendants to take pictures for us and to let us know to fill out a page.

My advice is to make sure it’s in an obvious place, and maybe even ask some bridal party members to spread the word. I did a wish bowl “guestbook,” and I got very few cards. :( I asked a bunch of guests about it after I got back from the honeymoon, and they said they never even saw it. It was on the table right by the entrance… Grrr. I think the problem was that no one spent any time in the foyer so they didn’t see it. Anyway, I *was* going to put them in their own album, but I guess they’ll go in my scrapbook instead. And I have a nice footed bowl for fruit now.

Hi, I’m working on my Wish tree as well and found this. I plan on framing it in an 8×10 frame. Also, this is the link I’m imitating for the most part. But, I’m going to use cheaper clear beads–the glass garland is expensive!

a brand new Mr. & Mrs.
We could surely use
your advice and wishes.
Share with us your wisdom
about marriage, love & life,
The secret to being a good husband
or top-notch first-rate wife.
Jot down a memory
a reminder of our day.
A doodle or picture will do
if you don’t know what to say.
Please don’t forget, it would be such a shame
Don’t hang your wish on our tree,
without signing your name.
What ever you pen, we’re sure to treasure
long after this day has passed,
your words will bring us pleasure.

Hope this helps!

Hi again, I found one more site. They have lots of bead garlands and seem very affordable. I will likely order my garland for my wish tree from here:

My developer is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on numerous websites for about a year and am worried about switching to another platform. I have heard great things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!
