Now Introducing… MRS. Tomato!

July 5th, 2007 @ 3:06 pm by Mrs. Tomato

I’m married. I’m a WIFE. And Mr.Tomato is my husband (though I’ve decided to call him “hubby” hehe). blush07

After weeks of worrying about the day-of, I was surprisingly (miraculously?) VERY relaxed during the day. I woke up at 4:30am, blogged on Weddingbee, went back to nap for two hours, and waited for my bridesmaids to arrive. They were 15 minutes late. I didn’t spazz a bit. They apologized profusely. I assured them not to worry.

We arrived for our hair/makeup appointment half an hour early, so we decided to grab a cup of coffee at a nearby bakery. My bridesmaid Janice told the guy behind the counter I was getting married today, to which he said in disbelief, “Today? No way! You are the most relaxed looking bride I’ve ever seen.”

I was so relaxed that when I discovered a long, red ballpoint-pen mark on my dress a few hours later, my reaction was, “Oh well. Whatever. No one will see.”

The day went by quickly, but I’d have to say I was able to enjoy every moment of it. Some brides say the day goes by in a blur and they can’t remember much, but I made sure to relish and grasp the most important day of my life.

I had absolutely no regrets.

My mom ended up not coming to my wedding. And you know what? I was okay with it. I was incredibly happy to be marrying the man I loved so dearly, and that simply overshadowed everything else that day. And I think everyone knew that, because my friends came up to me afterwards and said, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so happy and content. EVER.”

Now I have to get ready for my SoCal reception tonight, so I’ll update more later (probably after our Prague/Vienna/Budapest honeymoon!).

You were an absolutely beautiful bride! You are also an inspiration to others (like me) with family situations that are less than understandable. I’m so happy your day was as relaxing and enjoyable as it sounds! Congrats!

farmgal put it exactly the way I feel. It’s amazing how you’ve dealt with your family situation. I’ve been going through a bit of the same. I’m so glad everything has been working out for you. You looked beautiful!

Dear Mrs. Tomato: Congrats! Sorry to hear your mom didn’t step up and come to your wedding, but sounds like you have everything in perspective. Her non-attendance is only a tiny fraction of the day and now she’s the one who has to deal with herself and the guilt and how to handle the questions aimed at her (all the raised eyebrows are on her, not you), her own regrets about the missed opportunity to witness the day and be in these historic family photos. Meanwhile, you are free (!) and get to enjoy every moment of your reception, honeymoon and newlywed life, as you have started your own family and have new loyalties and responsibilities.

Blessings to you and your husband!

I know I’m really late but I just wanted to say that my Mum’s not coming to my wedding either and it was nice to read that you were ok with it. I don’t know what the backstory is anyway - but I kinda feel like I’m the bad person in the situation…
