Please Pass The Favor…

July 5th, 2007 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Jelly Beans

Mr. Jelly Beans and I decided that we were going to forgo the traditional Filipino favor route of native accessories (ie. fans, baskets, capiz boxes, etc..) much to my grandmother’s dismay. I think she had everything picked out as soon as she heard we were engaged. Sorry Lola! (grandmother in Tagalog)

We wanted something that was meaningful to us and at the same time had a 50/50 chance of escaping the inevitable trash can destiny. So it began, my long and arduous search for that unique and functional favor, the one that would rule them all. Who knew there were so many options. At one point it got really overwhelming. Mints, rhinestone matchboxes, homemade cookies, wedding tea, candles, hand cream, almonds, candy, coasters, frames and I could go on forever. I vowed not to give up, I was on a freakin quest after all. So after many months, many websites, long hours on Ebay, I found it, my precious! :)

Ok so it’s only a wine stopper. It probably won’t rule all the other favors out there. But there is so much more to this wine stopper. Does it meet my criteria? Oh darn right it does.

Meaningful (check) - the spiral shape of the stopper resembles a lower case “E”. Almost as if we had intended it that way.

Functional (check) - everyone needs a wine stopper, right?

Unique (check) - not your typical Jelly Bean Family favor

Time to pack it up people!

I cut dark brown velour-ish squares to wrap the favors in. See how sparkly! :)

I then found chocolate brown satin cone favor boxes that fit the stoppers perfectly.

I embellished the box with pale pink horizontal tags with a blossom design, our names and wedding date, which I tied with a single-stitched 1/8″ grosgrain ribbon.

Cute! Love the packaging…I am very in favor of wine stopper, well, favors. I have seen some other wedding sites that bag on non-edible favors, but I think its cool! Who wants an edible wedding favor when all you do is eat at a wedding? I’m already giving these people appetizers, a three course meal, wedding cake AND a dessert buffet…..do you really need gourmet cookies to go home with?
Our wedding favor is going to be drink koozies. I wanted to do wine stoppers but there are some people in both families who don’t drink. At least they can stick a soda in a koozie.

post #3, our customized koozies are running about $1 each. Check out ebay, or just put in “customized koozies” on google. We are imprinting our wedding logo on them and sayings like “Eat, drink and be married” and “To have and to hold and to keep your drink cold”. You can do split runs in different colors and with different sayings.
We are wrapping them in cellophane and tying a ribbon on them.

A++++++!!! Great favor everyone would love.

I would have thought these would be too expensive for favors, but I’m sure you got a deal.

I love it! I am probably getting bottle stoppers as well. I hate the idea of spending money on favors ppl. will throw away. Plus my FI and I learned that the little sucker works on virtually all bottles big and small. =)

Thanks everyone for the feel good comments…. :)P

Tea, Rosa- I purchased the cone boxes at All Occasions giftware (www.all-occasions-giftware.com/) for $0.49 CA cents each. If you do a search online you are sure to find more options. Mine was very limited here in Canada. If you are in Los Angeles, I remember seeing the cone boxes in downtown LA.

betting_im-not- I initially saw the stopper on a bridal website for about $3.00 each, if I remember correctly. I found them on Ebay for about $1.50 *happy dance* What I really like about them is that they dont “feel” cheap, if you know what I mean. They are chrome and quite heavy.

Thanks Miss Lovebug… :)

Love the box!! (I actually have received a few bottle stoppers…and we still have them. I can’t promise they get used (mostly because we have so many of them) but they didn’t get tossed and I do think of the couple every time I see it in the drawer :))

I’m not sure whether you’ll catch this, Mrs. Jelly Beans, now that this thread is old, but where did you get the labels? I’ve searched everywhere in how to package my sis’ favors, and stumbled upon your picture and voila! Yours was just perfect! But now I’m trying to track down the pieces. Can you help?

Hi Genie,

So sorry for the late reply! I bought the labels on Ebay. I tried to search for the seller but it seems that she is no longer doing business on Ebay. But on the bright side there are so much more options out there labels-wise. I wish I could do them all over again! lol! Have a great week! :)
