Movie Maker Slideshow

July 6th, 2007 @ 1:00 pm by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I noticed some readers seeking advice about creating a slideshow for the reception, so I thought I should share my experience creating our slideshow..

Two days before the wedding I asked myself while I was stressing about all the details of our wedding, “Hey, wouldn’t it be nice to have a slideshow?”

Only 2 days before our wedding - what the #!@# was I thinking at the time?!

So I went ahead and decided to create a slideshow. I quickly flipped through all of our photo albums and found a lot of interesting photos from our childhood, and of our parents and grandparents when they were young. I selected about 40 images and arranged them in chronological order. To save time scanning all the photos , I placed several photos on the scanner and then edited each one to be saved as invidiual image files. For the slideshow design, I used Windows Movie Maker rather than Power Point because it was easier to add all of the photos (just drag and drop!) and I was able to add special features, such as videos and musical effects. Windows Movie Maker also lets you save the slideshow on a DVD, which is so much more convenenient than having to bring your laptop to the wedding. Most DJs can provide the equipment, such as a projector, screen and DVD player (sometimes a laptop too) for about $100-200.

Here are a few highlights from our wedding slideshow. In the very beginning I decided to feature photos of our parents because they really cherished the memories in those photos. Towards the end of the slideshow I added a short video clip of us rowing a boat with our friends in Central Park!

My biggest advice to anyone who is interested in creating a slideshow is not to procrastinate until the very last minute! It was seriously a project from hell because I had no idea how to use the software and it took forever to scan all the images.

If you have any other questions regarding how to create a slideshow using Power Point or Movie Maker, feel free to ask them here!

i actually started to use movie maker and did a test run of my slideshow…the program pixelated my pictures and they weren’t crisp, even though the original was a crisp digital pic. so i opted to use photostory instead….how did you avoid getting pixelated pics in movie maker? but totally agree, its an easy program…as is photostory.

Well, my to-do list wasn’t QUITE long enough yet, so thanks for the addition!! All teasing aside - it’s really touching and I would love to do that for maybe the rehearsal dinner or something….Hmmm

I think it’s nice you included a lot of your friends & family in the photos. It can be tedious to watch a thousand photos of just the bride and groom. It’s fun for the guests to see themselves and each other in the photos, plus those who have passed away.

ot, i primarily used scanned photos for our slideshow, they weren’t exactly crisp but the quality was pretty good. strangely enough, i think the scanned photos actually looked better than the digital photos.

What is the second song that you played? I’m guessing the title is “The Luckiest” but I don’t know who sings it. It’s very pretty, and great job on the slideshow!

I think it’s Ben Folds Five.. I like the lyrics and the melody has a touch of melancholy. We had a few guests sobbing.. :)

Thanks for Sharing…my fiance mentioned he wanted a slide show but I’ve been procrastinating the project. The second song you played is actually going to be our song for the first dance. SI won’t let me know the artist but everytime he plays the song (randomly)and sings it to me it makes me cry.

I can’t believe you took on this task 2 days before!! I still have one month left and canceled the slideshow weeks ago!

Hehe. I had all intentions of getting it done, but scanning the photos was a task I did NOT want to undertake. I just didn’t have the time.

But, yeah. Movie Maker is really simple. Like a prior comment said, Photostory is also an option. It’s 100 times easier than Movie Maker. You can have a slideshow done in 10 minutes (provided you already have the photos on the computer).

Great tips.

We used http://www.dvdphotographs.com to create our wedding slideshow. Cost about $100 and really added a nice touch to the reception.
