STD (The Rough Draft)

July 6th, 2007 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

STD (The Rough Draft) : wedding diy palm springs save the dates Std

So here it is, the STD rough draft. We still have to design the back - it’s going to be a postcard backing - and we just need to figure out the wording. We’re thinking it will be hand-written as if it’s a postcard, but just tell all the pertinent details:

Our full names
We’re getting Married
The date
It will be in Palm Springs

Any suggestions on how to word it? As for the front, it is a rough draft so we are still adjusting colors and things. I don’t know if you can tell at this size (and the quality suffers since I didn’t want the file size to be humongous), but these are all photos from trips of ours to Palm Springs (and the surrounding areas), that Mr. Peppermint then colorized to look like vintage Postcard images. The photo in the “M” was taken right after Mr. Peppermint proposed–I’m holding up my hand to show off my ring (yes, I had put it on the wrong hand!).

What are your thoughts, guys?

Do you know your wedding venue yet? If so, that would give ppl a better idea so they can start thinking about hotels, etc.

“Save the date!
We’re getting married
December xx 2007

venue name
Palm Springs”

Then sign it like a postcard
“love,
miss peppermint and mr. peppermint”

There is also “hand writing font” if you decide you don’t want to really hand write them all.

We did something very similar for our destination wedding. It was also a postcard! My only warning to you is that some people may throw it away thinking it is junk mail! We didn’t hand write anything on the back though (had it printed) so you may have better luck.

In addition to the normal details you put above, we put our website address and said “Don’t forget to write!” with our email addresses so people would feel free to ask any travel questions, etc.

We also had our save the date postcards printed. They had our monogram and city, state where the wedding is going to take place on the front.

I wanted to be sure that our family and friends knew it was a save the date (and not junk mail) so on the back we printed:

Bride and Groom
are getting married!

Date
City & State

We want you to come celebrate with us so please save the date.

A formal invitation will follow, but we wanted to give you plety of notive for making the necessary arrancements to be with us on our special occasion.

Hope to see you there!

Website

It seems a little lengthy, but I didn’t want to leave anything to chance withour group! :) But it fit nicely on the post card and came out great.

ours was short:

We’re getting married!

Save the date
for the wedding of
bride and groom

date

city, state

Invitation will follow

i saw another one the other day of a std postcard…it looks like a postcard however it was wrapped in a clear envelope and when you opened it, the post card opened up with wedding details in it (accomodations etc). I thought that was nifty bc it prevented anyone from thinking it was junkmail and it allowed the couple to put way more info on there but still have the cute postcard look.

michelle & aeodorothee - we made them on adobe photoshop. we had a calendar of vintage palm springs postcards that we used as the basis and then erased the pictures they had used to fill each letter and put ours in instead. let me know if you want more detailed instructions and I’ll get Mr. Peppermint to explain it more thoroughly (he’s the one with the made photoshop skills) :-)

Miss Peppermint - we are doppelgangers! I am getting hitched Oct. 7th in Palm Springs - at the Parker (Sundays are SO much cheaper). Not only that, I’m a graphic designer and we got a late start with STD cards, so we are incorporating that exact vintage postcard into our invitations! I love your dress - that was one of my favorites in my research (I ended up with Carolina Herrera off the rack). I’ve totally been enjoying your posts - you make me realize I still have alot of work left to do…

annieoakley - SO funny! good luck with your wedding–the parker is amazing (though i think you already know that :-) ) We truly are doppelgangers because the one designer i regret not checking on was carolina herrera! which dress did you pick?
