The Preoccupied Bride

July 6th, 2007 @ 6:09 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Tonight is my bridal shower and bachelorette party!! Unfortunately, due to multiple location and timing issues, the turnout for my shower will be relatively small. But I’m sure it will be special nonetheless, and I know 2 of my bridesmaids are currently at the location setting up as we speak! The bachelorette party should be more lively, as some more of my friends will be joining us for this portion of the festivities. I also just found out that I will be having a JOINT bachelorette party with a friend of mine, K, who is getting married the week before me! The more the merrier, and I am especially excited to share this experience with her! So stay tuned for Monday updates!

However, I realized late last night that I am a total idiot. I am attending K’s shower on Saturday (ugh, I hope we are both not too hung over…) and it just hit me like a ton of bricks that I completely spaced out and forgot to get her a gift (sorry K, I know you’ll see this, hehe). So I will have to drag my hungover self to Macy’s/Crate and Barrel/Bed Bath & Beyond sometime between the hours of 11am and 2pm on Saturday to pick something up from her registry. How rude would it be to show up empty handed, especially as another bride-to-be!? Yikes…

Anyways, so this requires some more information from our Weddingbee readers:

For a bridal shower, do you

  • buy something on the registry (79%)
    buy something on the registry -> 79% (281 Votes)
  • off the registry? (21%)
    off the registry? -> 21% (74 Votes)

Total Votes: 355

And what do you usually spend?

I didn’t vote on the registry because I’m split on a decision. For the last two bridal showers (and an upcoming third) I’ve bought not on registry. I bought something I knew the brides would/will like. (Two recieved a wedding album book to fill out every year and the third is getting a handmade blank scrap book- since she scrapbooks for a hobby)

I would buy off the registry for someone that I didn’t know so well or know what she would appreciate from not-on-the-registry.

Perhaps you can buy something online, and just give your friend a note saying the gift is on its way?

I voted, but I spent about $30 + shipping on a shower gift for my friend’s shower that I could not attend. I mailed it to her ahead of time (it wasn’t a surprise shower).
