Since my “failed” mock table appointment, I received an email response from the Catering and Sales Manager. She was quite apologetic and seemed genuinely sincere. Here is the kicker:
“We will provide you with a new Special Event Planner (insert name here). She has many years experience and is very professional and personable. I’m sure you will get on very well with her.”
Ummm, ok? I was really shocked and surprised at this point. This was the last thing that I expected. I sure hope I didn’t get someone into trouble, or even worse maybe she didnt want to work with me anymore. I can hear the “It’s not you, it’s me” speech in my head.
Anyway, our new special event planner, we shall call her, New Event Planner or NEP for short, is the best thing that has happened to us. She immediately called us to set up a meeting to go over all our reception details *jaw dropping*.
I love, no wait, I absolutely, positively adore her. She emails me a few days before our meeting highlighting key points in our checklist that she would like to go over.
I finally meet NEP and she is even nicer in person than I ever imagined. She is planning her own wedding as well so she and I are on the same wavelength. We spent over an hour going over our Banquet Event Order, floorplans, timelines etc… There was no point in our meeting where I felt pressed for time, which I find happens a lot during my wedding appointments. She had the “Let me help you” attitude that Tom Cruise personified in Jerry Maguire.
She had so many great ideas and her attention to detail is rocket science impressive. Her past events include planning events for the Prime Minister, since Ottawa is Canada’s capital, and for a woman that you may vaguely recognize. Her name starts with Queen and ends with Elizabeth.
NEP concludes our meeting and promises to send me a revised Banquet Event Order by the afternoon. True to her word, there it sat, waiting patiently, in my Inbox.
Our wedding is fast approaching at “ludicrous speed” (know where that’s from?) and I can breathe easier that we have someone on board who really seems to know what she is doing, and makes an effort to make us feel that we are as important as any of her other clients. We may not be royalty or heads of the state but we are Jelly Beans, and darn proud of it! ![]()
