About Mrs. Pumpkin

Thank You, Whoever You Are*

July 9th, 2007 @ 12:13 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

I have been torn on whether to do personalized thank you cards or not since we got back from the honeymoon. One of the things that I was adamant about in planning the wedding was that the stationery was consistent throughout. Most of the weddings that I loved looking at in magazines all had that cohesive theme running through every detail and it was the stationery which brought everything together.

So, we had our designer (Melissa Chapman) create EVERYTHING! She used the same cherry blossom motif and colours on our STD’s, invitations, maps, reply cards, ceremony programs, refreshment table signs, escort cards, table name cards, honour bar signs, bathroom basket signs, wish tree sign and cards, and candy buffet signs. I had originally asked her to make us some thank you cards as well, so why am I now questioning having her design some for us now? I honestly don’t know! It’s not the money since she quoted us a very reasonable price. It isn’t that we were, in any way, unhappy with what she has designed for us so far - we have loved everything that she has done for us! I really can’t explain it… maybe I am just sick of making decisions.

So, I am asking for your advice! Here are some pictures of some of the stationery we used for the wedding, a thank you card that Melissa designed for another couple and then some cute thank you cards that I found at Chapters and have already purchased but can take back if I change my mind.

Some of our stationery:

The Thank You card she designed for another couple:

My Chapters Thank You cards - don’t you just love silhouette designs?

What I am thinking at the moment is to use the Chapters thank you cards for almost everyone, and then just have Melissa design some thank you cards for the wedding party, the Grandmas and our parents. Since I have been so consistent with our theme so far, do you think that it’s a mistake to abandon it now? What do you think about the picture thank you cards? Part of me really likes the idea of them because they will give our guests one of our official pictures as well as act as the thank you, but the other part of me thinks that if I am going to get Melissa to do our thank you cards then it should stay within the cherry blossom theme. Maybe she can design one with both our theme and a picture…. but I also think that the Chapters ones are really cute! I just don’t know what to do on this one. Help!

* Geggy Tah (If you aren’t familiar with this song I highly recommend that you listen to it at least once. It is a hilarious yet super catchy song that was a big part of my summer in 1996…. good times.)

The Chapters cards are adorable. But if you really are determined to have everything match, you could totally have a card with the black and white photo of you two, and have the color cherry blossom running along the bottom and around the righthand side, with “Thank you” or something in pink lettering. It would add a nice splash of color to the photo.

I was thinking along the same lines as Tanya - do a picture and then use your cherry blossom, colors, and font and the front. You could even put a little cherry blossom on the inside corner too. If you love the Chapters cards, why not use them for thank yous for things other than gifts, so that some people receive both?

I think you should go with the Chapters cards. You have them, you can get started now, and you don’t have to THINK anymore! I totally know what you mean regarding making decisions.
And if you’re going to have your designer make any thank you (for BP, etc) I’d just do it for all of them. No sense in doing all that work and only having a handful of cards to show for it.
Good luck!!

I agree, I have a variety of thank you cards waiting in the wings…I never thought of matching them until I had already bought them…it’s a neat idea, but it’s too late now and I am glad I don’t have to think about it!

I think you should relax a little about all the matchy-matchy and just choose the one you *like* best.

All of your cherry blossom stuff was beautiful, but there is really no extra credit for matching Every. Single. Detail. :-)

i think guests would love to have a photo. i would use pink lettering on the front, and a cherry blossom on the inside.

I’m with AMK on this one. Well, as long as you’re happy with it that way. I plan on spending all my stationery budget on invites (+ inserts), place cards and MAYBE programs (we might skip those too, haven’t decided). I’m not bothering with menus or thank you cards, I just don’t see the point in spending so much money on a thank you card that most definitely won’t hold the same sentimental value as the invitation. I’m all about the Chapters ones.

But, that’s my personal priorities talking. I don’t really care what my thank you cards look like as long as everyone GETS a thank you! If stationery is more important to you and you’re comfortable with the price point, then go for it.

There’s no reason why the thank yous need to match your invitations. My mother ended up having the final say on invitations, so the dealer I worked with suggested that the thank yous be my way of getting what I wanted.

I really like your cherry blossom motif so I think you should do the black and white photo with the cherry blossoms as some of the commenters suggested.

This is off topic but I couldn’t help notice, does that thank you card that Melissa designed say “glovers”??

I don’t think the thank yous need to match the rest of your stationery. I got my TYs at Michael’s for $2.99.

I like both examples that you showed. One thing to consider is whether Mr. Pumpkin will be writing any TYs. If so, I would go for something a little less overtly girly.

Hi L,
Yes, it says “Glovers” - I am sure that was their last name!

Hi Chrissie,
Mr. Pumpkin has already informed me that he will not be writing any thank you cards. He claims to have used up all of his “gems” on the thank you cards from the shower. He is also living 8 hours away now and working, while I am not, so I suppose I can do them without him…

Just use the Chapters cards! They are so cute!

And Mrs. Pumpkin, where did you get your glass serving jars for the drinks? I want some! Were they expensive?

Hi rzblna,
I got the jars from an ebay seller. I posted about the jars when I got them (April 12th) so if you look back through my old posts you can see the link to the ebay store there! The post was called, “Brown paper packages tied up with string” and the jars were about $40 each with shipping to Canada.

Good luck!

Miss Pumpkin, may I just say that I love the way you reference song titles and lyrics in the titles of your posts! Also I think it’s wonderful that you worked the Pearl Jam shows into your honeymoon (and the lyric into your program). Clearly you’re a music fan after my own heart! My wedding is about 10 mos away and all my fiance and I know about our honeymoon is that we’re starting at JazzFest in New Orleans…and if we’re really lucky our favorite band Widespread Panic will be playing. :)
