Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

I Like Help

July 10th, 2007 @ 5:26 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

When I ordered my invitations I refused to also order reception cards. Why? Because paying 85 dollars extra for a CARD just killed me. I figured I’d just make up some crap card on my computer and that’d be that. Who cares if it doesn’t match? Actually, since the actual invitation and RSVP cards were so dark, I was happier knowing they wouldn’t match. Three dark items in an envelope just seemed a little depressing, I don’t know why. Anyway, since I have no mad skills in computer design, I was a little stumped, but figured I had a few days to think it over.

Enter my new BFF Tricia, who very kindly offered her help in this area. I told her I wanted to know how to create a reception card, and she asked me what information I needed in this card. “Well”, I said, “I need to list the venue address and possibly our website, for more information.”

So, taking the design off our invitations (because I sent it to her in a PDF file), she made me up three versions of our reception card, all perfectly what I wanted.

Here they are in slightly “censored” view.

I love this version!

This is the “fall themed” one.

And this is the final one

In case you forgot, here is our invitation.

Anyway, thanks to Mrs. Bee for helping me turn them into GIFs, and a million thanks to Tricia, and her wizarding help! My favorites are the first and the last. The second one, while fitting for our theme, looks too different. Too bad because I love it so much! My mom loves the first one as do the rest of my family. My dad, though, loves the last one! Not helping.

Which do you like best?

I love the second one but if it’s a choice b/t the first and third - then I vote for the first one!

I think the first one coordinates best w/ your invites.

Jean, I totally love the second one, too. Does it matter that it’s not matchy-matchy?

I vote for number 1 on this. But all three are really nice.

I actually think #3 goes best with your invites. Don’t want to add to the confusion. Bonus for #3: your dad gets to tell people that his choice was the one that made it. :)

I LOVE the second one. Personally, I don’t like matchy-matchy too much and the carry-over on the colors compliments your invitations enough for it to work really well.

But…just my opinion. :) All are nice!

i like the third one…only because the height of the brown “reception to follow” part of the card is better proportioned than the first one. if the first one’s were the same height as the third, i’d go with the first card.

I like (in order) 3, 1, 2. The reason 2 is last is because the branchy background seems to interfere with the letters.

I like 2. Can she do a combo of the 1st and 3rd?

I like #1 best.

But if you are printing them out on the computer, you could always do all three, with different people getting different styles. :)

In order of preference, 3, 1, 2.

I like the solid white base of #2, but I agree that the artwork seems a bit bold. Could your friend lower the opacity so it isn’t quite as dark?

I think the colors of the first one match your invitation better than the third one - if the third one were the color of the first one, I think it’d be a harder decision. I really like the design in the corner of the first one, too. But like CS said, you could totally print all three or even just #1 & #3 and use them both.

I like all of them! But you’re right, 2nd one doesn’t go as well with your invites as the 1st and 3rd. I don’t think it absolutely has to match and if you don’t want hurt any family members (not sure if they care about their choice getting chosen), #2 might just work! =D

I think #3 is the most elegant solution, design-wise. Your copy is not competing with any ornamentation there. I do agree with the colour concerns on that one; also I might pick a better typography solution but that is me just being nit-picky (I am a designer so I am looking at this kind of stuff all day long).

I am very fond of your invitations, I must say!

All three styles are nice but the first one really grabbed me. The tones seemed perfectly in balance with your invite.

Just my .2 to add to the mix!
