About Mrs. Strawberry

spoylt-vector.jpg

I had visions of romantic lace lingerie for my wedding day. Something soft and feminine with a vintage touch. I fell in love with the romance collection from Spoylt when Weddingbee was giving away some of their goods. But now that I have stopped to think–I realize that satin and lace will do nothing for my protruding gut and thunder thighs. Nay.

Many bees have blogged about the magical and mystical powers of Spanx. They will definitely do the trick. However, I’d rather Mr. Strawberry not be confronted with my stuffed sausage appearance on our first night as husband and wife. I mean you really have to work to get into those babies. Not exactly a turn on.

What’s a girl to do? Any words of advice?

Unfortunately I’ve come to face the same problem. I’d always envisioned taking my gown off to reveal something extremely feminine. But no luck. I’m going to do a quick change into my lingerie. Hopefully my FI won’t notice. ;-)

Are you planning to change into a “going away” outfit to leave the reception (my mom keeps bugging me about this)? If so, you can ditch the spanx when you take off your gown and replace them with a sexy-lace number and a cute outfit.

I got a dress that flattered me without any underwear (I did wear light blue undies though!)

You can always plan to change into something a bit more sexy post-wedding. That seems like a fairly safe compromise. I actually changed from my dress into regular clothes to hang out with friends for a while after the wedding, so if you’re doing anything like that it won’t matter at all.

i couldn’t wear my fancy lingerie under my dress b/c it had blue ribbon that showed through the dress. so i packed my sexy stuff into my overnight bag and had it dropped off at the hotel earlier in the day. we checked into our room, had some champagne, ordered room service and finally ate dinner. then i mentioned that i had a surprise for him and disappeared into the bathroom. i came out wearing my sexy lingerie and it was a big hit. he was completely distracted from thinking about how he didn’t take my dress off of me.

Having the same issue….only I don’t think I could do like Cassie and slip away…there is no way I can get out of my dress alive without help! Maybe sneak into the reception bathroom and slip off the spanx just before we leave??

Same problem - I was planning the go to the ladies, rip those bad boys off and suck in my gut as I come back out route…

Why not change out of your Spanx at some time during the reception when the dancing gets under way? That way, you can breathe while dancing. And your husband will never know that you’ve been in Spanx all day!

I bought sexy matching lingerie–a supportive merry widow with garters, matching undies, and really nice stockings– but it turned out that my gown looked better without the merry widow on top. So I just wore the matching panties. With control-top pantyhose. I ditched the pantyhose before my new husband took off my dress. And then I had the merry widow and matching stockings for the honeymoon! I also bought a really nice Claire Pettibone ivory lace chemise “just in case” I needed something to change into. It’s your wedding night, you’re only having one (hopefully!), so it’s nice to have options. And as I said, anything not used will be great for the honeymoon!

that’s so funny!!!! i was just shopping (with my beau) for a adhesive no-back bra on the weekend. i was then describing how awesome it was going to look like with my spanx (which he had never heard of). I described it as a sausage-like encasing. Good thing we’ve been living together for over 6 years and hide nothing from each other! I’ll save the sexy undies for the 2nd night.

I saw wardrobe change in another room and make a grand entrance. This way you can change from the not so eye-candy undergarments to the seductive set you want to wear!

Hee hee…turns out what I am wearing under the dress is EXACTLY what I wore under the dress in my last post. When I was changing at the hotel over the weekend, I gave Mr Corn a preview and told him not to expect anything else. In all reality…after he helps me get OUT of my dress (or at least un does the dress enough for me to get out myself) I plan on going to the bathroom and putting on my ‘other’ bridal attire :)

I didn’t wear Spanx at my wedding (I had a kind of corset with garters number which was both expensive and sexy). But I did wear Spanx with dresses during my honeymoon and believe it or not, my husband told me that he thought they were sexy and gave me adorable buns. So your guy may not find them to be as much of a turnoff as you might think.

I’m counting on both of us being too tired at the end of the night to care. ;-)

I agree with getting out of the Spanx during the reception. I know Spanx are sorta expensive, but if your dress is a real contraption, get some medic scissors and just get a bridesmaid to help you cut the Spanx free! Consider it a cost of doing business.

What about a sexy corset top to hold in your tummy that would go well with nice lacy underwear? I’m not sure why you would need to contain any “thunder thighs” - won’t the skirt of your dress cover your legs? Also, won’t your groom discover the Spanx when he goes in for the garter at the reception?

You guys will be so tired at the end of the day that you’ll both probably want to freshen up when you get back anyways. Just slip into something sexy at that time.

i think everyone says they pass out instead of doing anything else - if you really wanted to… maybe suggest taking a really nice bath together first? then at least it’s sexy and you have an excuse to remove everything :)

Excuse yourself to another room and slip out of your dress/spanx/other unmentionables, and into some adorable white lingerie. If he’s anything like my fiance, he won’t mind and might actually get a kick out of the anticipation. That’s my plan!

I had the same problem! My solution was to change into a going away outfit (so my mother could clean the dress, etc, while I was on the honeymoon) - while doing that in private, I switched from the ugly undies into a gorgeous corset from Frederick’s.

It took a while to find the perfect dress that would allow me to wear my corset and thigh highs and not look stupid, but I think I pulled it off!

I like Jessica’s idea. I’ve also managed to find a couple of wonderful fifties-style dresses (small waist and wide skirt) that are perfect for wearing with a corset and thigh highs. The corset is a lot of fun. A little bit of Scarlett O’Hara (though mine is hooked and not laced). And he never complains when I wear it. If you have a need for a going-away outfit, that might do the trick.

Miss Lovebug–figleaves.com has a great selection. This is my “wedding” set:

It’s gorgeous, but also quite supportive. And I adore http://www.stockingirl.com/ for stockings. So sexy!

Miss Lovebug, my corset is a Lady Marlene bustier. Do a google search and you’ll see that it is available in many places. It is lovely, sexy, cinching, and supportive and I find it to be very comfortable. Hanes Silk Reflections still makes sexy and durable stockings that fasten to garters. You can get them in department stores. I love wearing them with this corset or with some very pretty and also comfortable garter belt-girdles. They’re not for every day (Spanx and no stockings is my everyday wear), but when I do wear hose, I like old-fashioned stockings better than pantyhose.

Miss Strawberry, I had the same problem. I decided on Spanx - they really held me in the entire day. I took them off during a break to the bathroom before the garter toss… and left them off the rest of the night. It was nice to let my body breathe and I was still in my wedding dress when we got to the hotel…… Dh never knew. :)

When I’m in Spanx all day long, I’m often tempted to take them off. The problem with doing this, however, is obvious. If you take off your Spanx, you lose the benefit you gain by wearing them. And since we wear Spanx to look our best in our dresses, it’s a real dilemma. It may come down, Miss Strawberry, to how essential the Spanx is for the fit of your dress. If you can do without it, then pixelvixen’s idea might work. If you can’t, then you’re just going to have to keep them on.

Please, people, if you can get away with it–no spanx and no undergarmets that will make you uncomforatble! I wore a corset (that was okay, comfort-wise–it definitely gave me my wedding day hourglass shape!) and cotton Victoria’s Secret boyshorts. And Monistat Chafing Relief Gel-Poweder. That’s it and I am SO GLAD. Spanx would have created another line, another bulge, etc.

You can find breathable cotton underwear that are cute/sexy and you’ll be so glad you’re actually comfortable! Just my size 16 opinion. :-)
